I heard that the CFO's house is on the market. If what I heard is true would a move be across town or out of  town? A move out of town could be viewed as another rattling blow to the administration. In view of the prior departures of key people, USM needs all the stability it can muster.

Good evening board friends,

I beg all of Mlle de Guerre's friends to refrain from discussing this issue with her. She has got wind of a rumor that Mr. Lassen is indeed leaving USM. She has decided that, instead of being the Vice President of Decorating and Morale at the D'Lo campus, she will offer her services as the new CFO.

You may not want this to happen. Mlle. cannot balance her own checkbook. In fact, Mlle. is not permitted to carry her checkbook about with her. You know the problems I have regarding smashed champagne glasses and hidden caches of dark chocolate raspberry creams., not to mention feathered shoes. Can you imagine if Mlle were in charge of USM's finances? Of course the students would enjoy the croissants, cafe au lait, brie, and mousse chocolat. If only it could be afforded!

However, there would be no more talk of outsourcing Physical Plant; these dedicated employees would receive raises, training, and nicer uniforms. Mlle. knows loyalty when she sees it, and believes it should be appreciated and rewarded.

Good evening to you all.

Sincerely,

Hermione Angleterre, Social Secretary to Monique de Guerre

P.S. I, of course, would institute tea-time, one of the great civilizing customs of Western civilization. A cup of Earl Grey and an egg salad sandwich in the afternoon might do much towards restoring civility and balance on campus.

Hermione,

If Mlle. de Guerre can count monopoly money, she can do as well as you-know-who. Give her a go. If Kinky isn't elected governor over here, we're thinking about nominating him for USM Prez in 2007. Oops...I guess that should be a secret.

Dr. Grimes addressed the faculty senate yesterday afternoon and clearly indicated his confidence in Mr. Lassen. I believe that if Mr. Lassen is leaving, Dr. Grimes had (has?) no clue. This, however, would not surprise me, either.

I haven't yet heard the details of the FS meeting. But it may be more appropriate, given the actual lines of power and influence in the Dome, to ask Mr. Lassen if he still has confidence in Mr. Grimes.

You were too subtle for us, John Boy:

Okay, I will pitch it lower.  John Deacon, bassist for the British rock group Queen wrote the hit song "Another One Bites the Dust" that was released on August 22, 1980.  It was published on an album called The Game.  I trust, at this point, it is becoming more clear.

At the risk of copying (without proper citation) the poster who used to respond this way, thankyouverymuch, I amused myself if not the rest of you!

John Deacon, I did at least figure out (after the better clues) that someone was leaving, but your reference was really obscure for those who are older and not in touch with music that much (e.g. me.)

She is the most gorgeous gal ever to come out of France.  A very dear friend of Boudreaux. An alligator fancier. She has a very meticulous housekeeper. She frequently says "C' est Guerre" with fire in her eyes.

If our CFO decides to split, this that mean the beneficiaries of the outsourcing grand plans would not be happy campers?

No, they will be happy campers - outsourcing will continue but now without professional oversight. Get ready to see bids being let to companies that have never seen the light of day at prices that leave no advantage to the public.

I believe this is bad for the university.  GL may have gotten a little carried away by his own ambitions and a little starstruck by being the golden boy in Shelby's administration, especially in the 2004-2005 academic year, but his higher than dome-average intelligence and integrity would have made him the best of the lot in the post-Shelby administration.  Best wishes to him and his family - almost three years of living in the Twilight Zone was evidently enough.

How sad that we have deteriorated until we are using the talking horse analogy. "It was not that the horse talked well, but that he talked at all."

"Now, Lassen said, he's trying to lead by example to encourage the university to embrace the new campus — every day, he parks in a remote lot and walks to his office.

'The frat boys see me walking by every day,' he said."

Maybe the frat boys can confirm Mr. Lassen's absence?

Would TX be Houston-Victoria perhaps?

Houston Victoria would be fine. Please, God, don't let it be Austin.

Anyone who thinks Lassen would follow Hudson to Victoria doesn't know diddly squat about the political situation in the dome three years ago.  Lassen's jump to the CFO slot was to escape the frying pan but, unfortunately for him, it was into the fire.

For real? Where does this leave us in terms of the Dome Body Count since the Glamser/Stringer debacle? (Angie Dear=gone, Jack "Hack" Hanbury=gone, Marky Mark D.=gone, Lisa MaderMath=gone, Tim "I'll be back" Hudson=gone, Kenny Boy "Job Snowball" Malone=stripped of power...and now, Gregg "No, really, I'm a grad student" Lassen=gone). Who am I missing? Oh, right, Shelboo=gone in 2007!

The wheels of justice grind slowly...

Hattiesburg TV station, WDAM, just reported that Lassen is going to UT Tyler, a school of about 5,000 students, for personal reasons and will remain at USM until the end of February.  No replacement as of yet.

Think what you may of Lassen due to his association with the Dome, but the man is above boards. Has done a great job in a bad situtation, wasn't involved in vendettas or other personal abuses of power. Now as the cookie jar fills with Katrina monies, there will be no one in the way of redirecting funds to pet projects and personal friends for fun and profit. Dark days are ahead. Expect a flurry of announcements touting new investments off campus, followed by pronouncement of poverty as the end draws neigh.
