They don't come more accomplished and talented than Lewis. He rose through the administrative ranks at Michigan and still managed to write two outstanding books and a rasher of articles.
He's destined for the presidency of a top twenty institution. I can't imagine him being interested in leading a fourth-tier institution in the poorest state in the nation. That is, unless, he develops a drinking problem and gets caught partying with with undergraduate coeds. Then we'd be able to pick him up as damaged goods--just like Eustachy

This Lewis, he
is too many smarts for Mississippi.
Hudson, will work long and hard for it.
Frances Lucas, some say it's a done deal.
Clyde Ginn, don't count him out for a short term.
William Lewis, this PRCC Lewis knows the political scene as well as anybody. Has the athletic group and car dealers lined up.
Don Cotten, waiting in the wings. Working his old high level contacts.
Trent Lott, he may want to give something back, after he leaves the Senate.
Eric Clark, he still wants one of those soft higher ed jobs.
Tom Burnham, he now has higher ed. expereince. Still has political clout.
Willie Pierce, and the She Thames becomes Dean or a VP.
John N. Hilpert, we have had a DSU president before.
Claudia Limbert, we may need a "feminine" touch after that red blooded....
Jay Grimes, would you believe it?

Can you believe it? Only one scholar in the group. Are we going to settle for such thinking? Or, is this what we have come to in this state? The last time the evidence. We got Shelboo.

Prime Round wrote: It's remarkable that consecutive posters (Twomore and Prime Round) would share the same top two candidates.
Not so remarkable, more likely that these two posters are "oldtimers" like me.
Steve and Suzye Doblin had strong ties to Hattiesburg, and made a substantial donation in memory of Suzye's father (the Marvin Reuben auditorium in Walker Science), only to leave when Steve wasn't considered a "viable" internal candidate for the Provost position. I'm sure he's been much happier in Beaumont than he would have been in the recent chaos here.
Similar story for Andy Griffin, who rose through the faculty ranks to Provost, and was considered a possible "moderating influence" when SFT was named President. It's pretty obvious that he had an early warning about "things to come" and got out while the getting was good. Imagine what life might have been like, if Andy had stayed to be the "neutron absorber" in the Dome, instead the thermonuclear meltdown of the Thames administration.

Please let me assure you that we are not the same posters. I don't have the foggiest notion who Twomore is. Nonetheless, I don't think our two top choices are particularly remarkable. It is purely coincidental.
