"Should our old Shelby be forgot
And never brought to mind?
Should our old Shelby be forgot,
To the dust-bin be consigned?
Oh, to the dust-bin be consigned,
Yes, to the bin consigned!
Let's lift a mug of Guiness high
While Shelby is consigned!"

How lovely. And it scans so nicely.

This reminds me of the lymricks that used to appear on the old message board. Oh for the good old days!

Again, to the tune of "Auld Lang Syne".....

"Should overpaid profs lose their tenure
When they abuse their posts;
Let's raise a glass to our dear Thames
Good riddance to these ghosts!"

I'm just pleased to have irritated the likes of you.  Plus the others who've read my above post but not replied, because they're convinced they're taking "the high road."

In such a stupidly-conceived thread as this one, your response is tantamount to praise.  Thanks!

Yes Quarter.

How wonderful that you are able to divine the motivations of a group of anonymous people.
Stupidly-conceived is certainly a concept friends of Shelby understand.
In case you failed to notice, the entire raison d'etre of this board is opposition to the stupidly-conceived reign of terror of your friend/relative/associate, Dr. Thames. If you want to write pro-Thames songs, you are free to start your own board.

Quarter = Mercy or clemency, especially when displayed or given to an enemy.

Does Trollicus undertand what "no quarter" means? By saying "yes quarter" he acknowledges the fact that we have an enemy and he is asking us to grant quarter!

I am greatly honored to have had my little ditty set to music and professionally sung (is that Barry Manilow with a hangover?).  Thanks very much to the poster who took the trouble to give me my first recording.  This may inspire more song-writing!

And all these years I thought it was a reference to the traditional penalty for treason.

I should have assessed that sarcasm would be lost on you humorless lot.

A pox on your stillborn humour!

A jest's prosperity lies in the ear
Of him that hears it, never in the tongue
Of him that makes it.

Humourless lot? Please, these are the people who have brought you W.J. Johnson's immortal bus ride, the weekly See-More, our own version of Webster, Monique de Guerre and the faithful Hermione, Quick Henry the Flit, the limericks, and so much more. Some of us may be annoying but humorless we are not!

WJ Johnson is responsible for the bus ride narrative?  The Committee may need to reconvene to rescind the award given to On the Bus.

I bow to no man in my admiration of W.J. Johnson, but I must respectfully claim my rights to authorship of the bus ride narrative.

And I thought it was a reference to the old Mississippi tradition of "quartering a hog." Or is it a chicken.

One characteristic of trolls is that they not only lack wit - they also lack humor.

My most humble apologies to "on the bus" for mis-attributing the brilliant narrative. What was I thinking? I also failed to acknowledge the legendary legal team of Judge Cooley, et. al., as well as the unbelievable duo, Messrs. Boudreaux and Thibodeaux.

And of course, Invictus is in a class by himself.

You've missed many other of the old "regulars" such as Miss Information, Googler, Allan Ludite, Mr. Wonderful and crew, and Night Chalker, to name only a few postgers of the No Quarter tradition.

Well, I was thinking of "funny" first and foremost, but obviously it isn't only USM that's suffering from loss of institutional memory!

"Should auld eccentric wannabes
Of tenured hippie dolts
Keep braying on this message board
While Shelby merr'ly gloats!"

Well dearie, seeing as how it's our message board, we can "bray" all we like.
Don't like it? Don't read it!!

But! But! But!  I do like it, and that's why I read it.  And it's a public message board, meaning it belongs to all of us.  So if I want to get on here and nettle you folks, that's m'right.

If you don't like it, you have the option of ignoring me.
