Any news of SFT's impending departure?
Permalink Closed

Trying to get back in the loop...what's the local talk about starting up a presidential search committee to find a new prez after SFT's impending departure in '07? You'd think something would've happened by now. If there's no word on the horizon, I think the Faculty Senate should start pressing the powers that be to find out when such a committee will be formed (and to make sure that there is adequate representation from all stakeholder groups, not just a few selected alums and favored departments).

Let's think toward the future, folks.

NO QUARTER!

AH-

The AAUP executive committtee met with the Commissioner and reported on this issue. Scroll through a couple of the relevant threads for information on this topic.

Mitch, the time for the IHL to form a search committee is long overdue. Hiring a university president is not as simple as buying a pair of socks at Walmart. The longer their delay, the more I'll believe they've got somebody in mind.

...and the person they have in mind may be Frances Lucas. Her name has already cropped up for the MSU search. AKL continues to be dead silent in realtion to anything about SFT....from his appointment to all of the disastrous actions SFT has taken as president. Why eles would Lucas sit back and watch everything he built be dismantled?

And the new Commissioner, he will go through the motions, but remember. he has a history of being a go along/get along kind of guy. He knows Mississippi politics and he will respond to same.

When the time was right (ripe? rife?), the IHL and others within the toxic loop wasted no time in naming SFT as President. (Sorry, but AKL is in the nepotism game just as much as Thames. If lil' Thames becomes Dean, no matter how qualified Frances is, her pairing with daughter Dana will be a disaster for education in general). Their, what is now, transparent facade has cost the MS taxpayers too much money and emotion. Let's not play their game again in this presidential search.

For any of you to smear F. Lucas's good name and qualifications is an abomination. You know nothing about running a college or university, while she has moved Millsaps forward by leaps and bounds.

You are despicable.

I could see MSU pursuing Frances Lucas for its presidency. After all, she is a MSU alum. (Ph.D. from Alabama).

Who is "you"? Who has "smeared" Dr. F. Lucas' good name?
Some people who post on this board think that Dr. A. Lucas made a trade, his silence in exchange for her candidacy. Others, including me, do not believe that, or at least we sincerely hope that is not true. I have not seen a single post on this board which attacks Dr. F. Lucas' abilities or character.

Yeah, I could see MSU ending up with FL and USM ending up with TH.  TM would be worse than SFT, he'd torch the place without creating so much of an uproar.

He'd torch the place? You mean there's something left to destroy? Don't tell ST!

AKL's silence is an abomination. I happen to like Frances - I know her, I just wish that her qualifications hadn't been smeared with nepotism. That's not her fault.

While I believe that AKL was silenced for some reason, I do not believe that it was to make a deal for Frances.  By the way, she is a fine person and an excellent administrator.  If and when she leaves Millsaps, it should be for a far better place than what USM has become.

Constructing an argument from silence is a logical fallacy.

Actually, the fallacy argumentum ex silentio claims that someone is ignorant of a fact is that person is silent about it. The fallacy here is false dilemma: either AKL speaks or he has such-and-such a motive.

History tells us much about those who fail to speak up when a just cause is the issue.
