Pardoning Monday's actions, there are some in the CoB who would like to see "Associate" label removed and the current AD become simply "Dean."  It would be much better than the current situation.

I think many people would support the AD becoming the D.

Not being in the COB or conversant with all the acronyms,  for purposes of this thread:

AD = Assistant Dean,   NOT   AD = Angeline Dvorak

Right?

Get real, the whole office should go, but USM will never have enough $$$ to hire quality administration.  You can only hope for the best of the worst.

Doty went into academia to become an administrator.  Is that true for the Associate Dean?  I don't think so, and that explains so much of the differences between them.

If that were to happen, the first time the person made a tough decision or confronted a faculty member who wasn't pulling his share of the load, everybody would be bashing him. It's the nature of the beast, y'know?

What motivates one is immaterial.  How they perform is all that matters.  I know COB would run much better without any Dean's Office personnel.

It would be really interesting to see Doty go to Boca Raton, to get him off your hands.

Unfortunately, he applied to the wrong Florida school, because FIU has an "Accelerated Management Program" at their College of Business Administration:  http://ope.fiu.edu/publicofferings.htm

Maybe he could apply to Florida International University instead of Florida Atlantic U?

We have an "Accelerator Management Program" at the Swamp Rat Museum. Does that count?

Ocala's not that far from Tampa or Boca Raton...

The Associate Dean would make for a good Dean.  He would drop some of the dopey things the Dean has generated.

Niroomand's e-mail said that SS was confused about the Sedona program.  Why was he confused?

Pardon me too,

Are you the AD's press agent?  You obvioulsy don't know him very well because he has more baggage than O'Hare airport.

You would be well advised to do your homework before making dopey suggestions.

His e-mail also said that if you have questions about anything, stop by his office and he will answer "most of" them.  When he stops, I suppose you have to put more quarters in.

Having said similar things about other assistants & deans myself, I'll just note that were the associate dean promoted, he'd generate his own personalized set of dopey things.

For more details, READ THIS or THIS. And remember, the guy who thought up that latter management principle has an MBA from Berkeley. Presumably he didn't get it online, but the best he's been able to do is find employment as a cartoonist.

I heard SS was trying to help get some information out to the college and was slapped down for it. The AD supposedly stated at the CoB faculty meeting last Friday that training for a CoB database program would be forthcoming in late January. However, I asked a CoB secretary today, and they have an artificial deadline in early January to have data completely entered into this database. The secretaries have had no training and have not been officially told about the scheduled training and it was reported that none of the secretaries was at that meeting.

I assume that SS's email was getting to the point of why the secretaries are toiling under an unnecessary burden and why they are not being informed of training sessions that may affect their lot in life, which makes more sense now that I know about they "deadline".

Apparently this was too much for the AD to bear.

Yes, but when Salter addressed the email to the entire college, he pulled myself and everyone else into it.  I didn't see anything wrong with the second email.  And, there should have been no reply.

Given that 60% of the CoB faculty have no idea exactly what that program does or how they will be required to use it, I'd say that everyone should be involved in the informational process. What do you have against the free flow of information, pardon me too? Does free flow of information hurt your position in the college?

I think the issue in the CoB is that administrators avoid making tough decisions by creating convoluted interpretations of rules. Also, in the CoB, those who don't pull their fair share of the load get raises, not reprimands. If administrators actually followed established rules instead of making their own set of unwritten rules, the CoB might function as well as, say, the CoAL.

Unlike the dean being on every CoB committee, committees having new mystery volunteer members, and ex officio members voting, the CoB has a long tradition of exceptions over-running rules, processes not being followed, and allowing "special friends" to slide for actions that other faculty members are called to account for. Perhaps in that way Doty is no different than at least some of his predecessors; the AD, however, has been in and around it, when not causing it, for many, many years. That is a person to be dean? Not even here. Not even now. I seriously doubt that there are 5 faculty members in the CoB that would support him. If there are, I can only think drug testing is in order.

No, there are a number of faculty in the CoB who want the Associate Dean elevated.  He would provide a transparent governance and follow guidelines.  Believe me.

Pardon,

BELIEVE ME when I tell you your statement is the most uninformed post I have ever read on this board.  And if the AD is ever under serious consideration for dean, you will hear a chorus of information that will make your statement look very silly.
