I believe the recent testimony before the US Congress by victims of the flooding in the lower 9th ward of New orleans was shocking.Incontrovertible eyewitness testimony of the deliberate destruction of the levees in poor black areas was presented. How long can we sit by and witness the genocidal elimination of the black race by the white power holders?

Thank you for a much more creative troll. This should generate a lot of conservative vs. liberal debate with a generous opportunity for claims of racism by all sides.
Was I absent the day the victims of the Ninth Ward flooding presented "incontravertible" evidence of deliberate etc. Was that before or after the Lakeview and Chalmette victims testified? When were these hearings held?
If the troll would do its homework, it would learn that according the the Times Picayune the death toll is roughly half-and-half.
The levee system was a mess and known to be a mess. Never attribute to malice what can adequately be explained by stupidity.
I have to correct my earlier comments to some degree. There's a long article in this morning's Times Picayune about this topic. Apparently I was absent when the hearings were held. The article explores the reasons for the belief that the levees were intentionally destroyed. Here's the link :http://www.nola.com/news/t-p/frontpage/index.ssf?/base/news-4/1134370689216400.xml My friends in Chalmette, however, would argue against the notion that the poor and/or black were "targeted" in some way.
It's one thing for people to persist in a mistaken belief, but it's another thing for people who know better to use those beliefs to strengthen their own power base, and I think a certain amount of that is going on.
The other thing that just makes me crazy is to see photographs of cars destroyed by the flooding. Why weren't some of these people IN their cars and GONE?? There shouldn't have been a working auto on the streets in any of those areas. Of course that leads to the question of why 1,000 city buses were allowed to flood instead of being used to get people out, but we could go on and on.
It was especially disheartening to me to watch the WLOX special on Katrina's impact on the Coast, broadcast last week. In one very telling moment, the reporter asked a young woman why she didn't plan to evacuate (this was a day or two before the storm.) The young woman replied, "I'm not worried, if anything happens they'll come get me."
I should say that my comments about cars and learned helplessness apply to all areas, classes and races. There were also plenty of people who didn't have the means to get out. There were some people who were responsible for their own plight, but many who were not. My comments should be taken as blaming them in any way.
This is a very emotional issue for me. I lived down there at one point, and was in the '95 flood, which was a terrifying experience. My father was a nursing home patient there for several years, and my last relative moved up here in '04. I used to have nightmares about the nursing home, and "there but for the grace of God . . . "

Thank goodness someone isn't afraid to tell the truth. This testimony was televised on CSPAN.

Gimme a break. I'm a NO native. I watched the entire testimony on CSPAN. There were no facts supporting this ridiculous conspiracy theory presented by anyone who testified. None. There were many hysterical unsupported allegations advanced by people of little credibility, individuals who possessed absolutely no civil engineering credentials or understanding as evidenced by their own words. I can hardly stifle a guffaw when these allegations are seriously mentioned. Check out the historical head-in-the-sand attitude of our corrupt and incompetent good ole boy Louisiana politicians toward taking (or more accurately avoiding) pre-emptive steps to prevent levee failure. There's the rub.
