The SACS website shows the following persons were registered to attend the 2005 Annual SACS Meeting in Atlanta on December 3-6: Mrs. Michell Anderson, Dr. Joan Exline, Dr. Jay Grimes, Dr. Joy Hamilton, Dr. Aubrey Lucas, and Dr. Shelby F. Thames.
This list is for those representing USM that were registered to attend as of 11-16. The number of USM people attending was not out of proportion when compared to other institutions. An updated list will be available at the SACS website in January.
An interesting side meeting, in a quiet corner, sharing some refreshments, could have been a discussion of the A. Lucas-Thames-F.Lucas transition. The Milsaps Lucas was also in attendance.
I must get back and assist Clark, he is working on a super story.

That should be Mrs. Michelle Arrington, Director of Institutional Research, I believe. She was not in attendance, however. I heard she was ill.
Dr. Lucas presided at the "President's Day Activities" on Monday. Although Invictus spied AKL in the company of Drs. Exline, Thames & Grimes on one occaision, for the most part he cut his own path. AKL has many friends in the association & is highly respected throughout the region. I did not see Frances Lucas, but I didn't go out of I's way to locate her. And I certainly didn't see any "secret meetings" in quiet corners (Truth is, with 3200 attendees, quiet corners were a bit difficult to come by.)
Invictus had the privilege of meeting Dr. Belle Wheelan, the new SACS president, & chatting with her briefly. She promises to be an excellent leader for the organization. Also visited a while with the inimitable Dr. Margaret Sullivan, but I was more concerned with I's own institution & not USM. (Margaret's always good for some off-the-cuff sage advice about almost anything SACS-related.)
Derek Bok was the speaker at the first General Session on Sunday. Interesting.
