Often, the name of Bud Ginn comes up in various threads. I know him well. Many people do not.
I have not seen him in some time or communicated with him.
What is his present role with USM? I know that he officially retired a number of years ago. What is his present employment arrangement at USM, what is his role, is he full time now or has PERS relaxed their rules and regulations regarding how much a retired person can work?
One thread indicated that Bud had Lucas and Thames connections.
Is he the link that will bring the new Lucas (Milsaps) as president and the new D. Thames as Dean in Education and Psychology. Did Bud really name the new associate dean in ed-psy?
Does anyone want to do some homework on this?
I personally don't think that Bud can pull it off. Stranger things have happened at USM. Remember someone arranged for Shellboo to become our president.

Following is my understanding of some additional roles Dr. Ginn has played in the university. Correct me if I am wrong. I believe Dr. Ginn was the USM affirmative action officer at one point. As I recall the effort to close down the AA office last year, Dr. Ginn was the individual who first communicated that plan to the current AA officer. Dr. Ginn has also been a university rep in lobbying efforts over the years. In addition, he is often instructor of record for courses in ELR. As his current title suggests, he is an important advisor to Dr. Thames. He continues to be one of the most influential members of this administration, and yet so few faculty know about him.
There is not much of a public record on Dr. Ginn. He has operated behind the scenes. As previously reported he is kin to the Lucas family and has been closely aligned to Thames. Dr. Ginn has a long history at USM, not as long as SFT, but a very long history. There have been many people that have benefitted from an association with Dr. Ginn. He has taken care of a number of people and has some good "friends" because he has helped people secure positions of influence at USM and in school districts across the state. It has been said that he has served as the hatchet man for both akl and sft. What real power does he have? He has a position that gives him influence and input into decisions. He also has a network of political friends because of his lobbying efforts. Most institutions have someone like Dr. Ginn that does the kind of things that he has done for akl and sft.
Back before the deluge, the coast grapevine on Ginn was that he had lobbied the state House IHL appropriations committee NOT to fund the construction of a new Science building at Gulf Park. As I remember, this was during the special session last winter when funding for this was passed as a condition of Diane Perenich's supporting tens of millions in corporate giveaway to Ingolls-Lytton/Northrup-Grumman. They then actually CUT jobs but dat's another story. A Jackson attorney who handles litigation for the state House called a colleague of mine, a longtime politico on da coast, and asked who in hades was this guy Ginn from USM-H'burg who was actually telling appropriations committee members that USM didn't need a new Science Building on da coast? I was not shocked by this at the time--old H'burg heads have been trying to shut down Gulf Coast campus for years-- but I do remember being surprised that they'd try to stop the Gulf Park science building when SACS had told da toad at the beginnign of his misrule that SoMiss absolutely must construct a sciecne building at Gulf PArk or the accreditation of the entire USM system was at risk. Da Toad den promptly "forgot" to forward a request for the new building to the appropriations committee for either one or two years in a row, either from malice or incompetence, no one's really sure. Anyhow, Bud Ginn was SoMiss's chief lobbyist during the AKL years and may still have a similar roll.
Scoop Person... We do not need this kind of reference on this board....what purpose does it serve? I would hope that an astute webmaster would remove your post.
Coast Watcher....you seem to have a good knowledge regarding my initial inquiry when i started this thread. Share with us.....do you know more than you are revealing about BG's contributions?
Let's get on to things that make a difference. If BG has a record regaarding USM, other than something very personal, then that's important. Otherwise, the personal stuff needs to be squashed by the webmaster. That is not the purpose of this board.
I think that there are others out there that believe that SCOOP and others that deliver this kind of info should be sauashed....permanently.
I agree that personal lives are not the concern of this board. My point was that I was intrigued at SCOOP's bringing A. Dvorak's name into such a context, and wondering what that was all about. I was interested in the politics behind the post. It would've been the same if SCOOP had said BG was into mud-wrestling or cat wrangling.
You academics need to get back to reality. This man has contributed more to USM than any of you have. So, get with it, look at his long and distinguished record of contributions to USM.
Put your record up against CNG's ...that's Bud...and see how you come out. He has been in the trenches. He has had to deal with the politics in the state and within the University of Southern Mississippi...It has probabaly been easier with state politics than with the USM stuff he has had to deal with....
Off-topic, but related to ethics. As if Ole Miss doesn't have enough problems with its football program, their coach has been accused of attempting to "loot" players from Tulane post-Katrina:

Please do relate that "long and distinguished record" of Ginn's contirbutions to USM. Let's give the man his due.
However, the point of this thread has been that nobody knows exactly what it is that CNG has been up to during his decades of service to SoMiss. All I know about him for sure is that a source I respect told me he lobbied against USM-Gulf Coast's getting the Sceince building it needed to protect the SACS accreditation of the entire SoMiss system. That does tend to strike one as pretty notable.
Perhaps you could elucidate some of his other notable accomplishments. Exactly which "trenches" has he been in? And what "politics" has he dealt with? The Ayers Decision? Clyde Kennard? Do tell . . .
On a related note: is it true that it was an appointment with AKL that brought Clyde Kennard to the Dome the day he was arrested there on trumped up charges of theft?

First of all, thank you for this quite chilling information. It clearly shows AKL's involvement in one of USM's "Mississippi Southern's" most shameful acts. I think this deserves its own thread and would love to see this thread stand alone rather than be connected to Ginn.
You seem to know where to obtain info. The original post in this thread was a request for info about this Bud Ginn. Others have said that he seems to be elusive, operates in a stealthy fashion, follows power, and has not left much of a record.
