Planning for the future is important. Therefore, I am directing the Commissioner and the Board of Trustees of the IHL to appoint and Independent Special Task Force:
-----to determine the "real impact" of Hurricane Katrina on the University of Southern Mississippi.
-----to develop and announce a tranisition plan for a new administration at USM.
-----to evaluate the accreditation status at USM by SACS and all other agencies.
-----to investigate the influence of certain "community leaders" in the general operation of USM, its athletic programs, and the business operation of the university.
-----to determine if all the institutions under their direction receive fair and equitable funding with the resources they are provided by the Legislature.

The ISTF will receive funding from my office, be required to seek input from all concerned parties, and will report to the IHL and my office by April 1, 2006.

I hope that all of these things take place. I am new and did not know what the real score was here before taking my position. What do we know about past task forces and their influence on decisions?

Was this post the reason for the interest in a presidential search process dialogue beginning? It sure would be great if the IHL got a legitimate directive or request such as this.
