My understanding that you can sue anyone for anything. The trick is getting a judge and/or jury to award you money.

According to what I see on line, Mercedes is a Spanish name meaning ransom or mercy.
I am guessing the name is based on the Latin third declension noun merces, mercedis ("payment").

According to the usage I see on line, the singular and plural are both Mercedes.
