Just got power back up, and catching up on the news both here in H'burg and nationally. Has anyone been able to access the USM homepage or USM webmail?  Any idea how we (faculty, staff and students) are to get information about the campus and reopening?  We've been listening to WDAM over a battery-operated TV and heard bits and pieces from the news.  Have any USM phone numbers been made available for info?

Neither will be up until electricty is stored. I am using my long dormant yahoo account. If anyone needs to reach me, it is psychoeyore@yahoo.com (no snickers please). am planning a road trip from Baxterville to HBG today, so I will give an update later (if my generator gas and Direcway last).

I drove through campus at 4:30 a.m. today, and it was completely lit up. Have not yet been into any buildings.

Two quick thoughts:


(1) I sincerely hope that Shelby Thames and his family are OK.


(2) Has he made any announcements or, for that matter, made it known to anyone that he is alive, well and trying to lead USM out of this disaster? It would seem that a post from him to this message board might be a good way to communicate with a signicant portion of the USM "Family", especially now that webmail and web service are up and running.

The fountain was flowing fine, which seemed somehow inappropriate given the water situation around town.

I just checked and the USM website is up, but not updated. Also, I was able to check my USM email. I still haven't heard if we're reopening Sept. 6.

Does anybody know to whom the announcement about USM reopening might be made?  The HA hasn't had any information about USM, but the CL has had a couple of pieces of information about USM's schedule (one--in the sports section of all places--said 9/6 and the other said a decision would be made 9/2).  I'm out of town (Chattanooga, Tennessee) and have used these two websites plus the AAUP message board for information. Anybody have a guess as to when the announcement will be made and how it will be communicated?  For that matter, would anybody venture a guess as to when we might resume classes?

On the COB Faculty and Staff thread, it has been posted that September 12 is going to be the start date. I'd say that you might want to keep a watch on all of the official news sources for more information.
