Any reports for Hattiesburg yet? I hear the power went out about 8:00 am, and I know the worst is yet to come for the 'Burg. . . but we were wondering how people were doing.

Thinking of everyone there--just heard of tornado warnings in Forrest County--I know you can't answer now but hang in there and tell those of us far away how you are when you can.

We've talked to a couple of faculty in the last hour. Mary Beth Applin has trees down and water coming into a recent addition (enclosed garage area), and Sam & Beth Bruton have one large pine tree down and the top of another in the yard.

Just heard that there were two trees down in my yard - and several through the neighborhood.  Power is out and the authorities said do not even call about it for two weeks.  So power might be out for a while.

Thinking about you guys.  Hope everyone is safe.  Miss you (my former colleagues) but don't miss this (as well as other things, heh, heh.)

Know that I have you in my prayers.  The last radar I looked at it seemed that the worst is behind you know, and major clean up is ahead.

As soon as you can, will you please let us all know some specifics of how Hattiesburg and the university fared?  The networks haven't given any coverage that I've found.   Neighborhoods--Oaks, historic, west Hattiesburg, Oak Grove; Schools--including USM; and you.  And, of course, the coast.  Surely we will get reports of that on the news.

I just heard from a friend's parents who are in H'burg that most of the oak trees in front of USM's front entrance are gone. I think the damage is going to be extensive, unfortunately. My prayers and thoughts are with all of you in south Mississippi. Please check in when you can.

Water out all over town--just talked to folks at water service who hope they will have it back within 24 hr. Power out almost everywhere. Trees down, branches, much damage. Most phone service seems to be working. AAUP web site working--USM's not.

No power anywhere. Trees uprooted. Most streets blocked with trees. Outbuildings destroyed. No traffic lights==many of them ripped down. Many, many huge trees down on campus. Crescent City/Hog badly damaged.

That's where all of those tall pine trees are...in the Avenues. I hope that everyone is okay over there...houses can be rebuilt.

I am in Atlanta and I was wondering how Purvis and Oak Grove is holding up? I live near Oak Grove HIgh School and being in Georgia, I am getting little news on Hattiesburg and USM. Thank you and god bless.
