Hurricane Katrina has strengthened to Cat 5 with significant wind and rain forecasted for the Hattiesburg area beginning very early Monday and continuing into Tuesday.  Closures need to be announced now so that students who have left campus for the weekend don't start back and so those who have stayed can get away if they can.

I hope people use common sense, announcements or not. If my child were home, I would not want them on the highway. On the other hand, students in the dorms should probably stay put. During Ivan, students disregarded advice to stay on campus.

Is Shelby holed up in a cave somewhere? Why hasn't there been an announcement about USM closing, computing being shut down, and so on? Tomorrow will be way too late.

Hopefully he's out on the gulf, enjoying a weekend of fishing, away from telephones and radios and other bothersome things.....
