I was at the library this morning at 10 am when it opened for the first Saturday of fall semester. It was hot as h*ll. The air was not on. Staff tried to contact physical plant, but no one was there. They called campus police who contacted someone to come turn it on. However before they got there the fire alarm went off at about 10:30 and the library was evacuated. The police determined that the excess heat form no A.C. tripped the alarm and all could return if they could take the high pitch noise. Eventually someone arrived who knew how to turn off the alarm and later the A.C. was turned on. By 11:15 the library was back to normal.
(Actually normal for USM was probably what occurred between 10 and 11. )
I've heard from a faculty member in a nearby building that it was too cold and one had to escape outside on Saturday to get any work done. Wonder what is up with the chiller/heater situation? Hope that gets worked out by first big football weekend when all these folks come to see the good things at the Hattiesburg campus. One thing is for sure - the heating and chilling situation is beyond the library's control, as is the same with other buildings.
