In the early 80's I had a friend at USM who was also in Camille -- she said she didn't know what she looked like as a kid because they lost all of their family photos. We were getting "Ready for Freddy" back then. I always recommend keeping a small box of important papers and significant photos to take during an evacuation.
They are now reporting (on CNN) that the storm will still be a catagory 4 by the time it hits the Hattiesburg area.

SOUTHERN MISS STUDENTS, EMPLOYEES ON CAMPUS DURING STORM ASKED TO STAY INDOORS, OBSERVE CURFEW
University of Southern Mississippi students, faculty and staff who remain on campus during Hurricane Katrina are being asked by university officials to remain inside and to observe a mandatory curfew scheduled to begin Monday at 6 a.m. and conclude Tuesday at 6 a.m.
A mandatory information meeting will be held at 7 p.m. this evening (Sunday, Aug. 28) in each of the university's residence halls. Only residents who choose to remain in their residence halls are required to attend.
Students who are living in campus housing will be provided enough non-perishable food items and water by Dining Services for the duration of the storm. Residents are reminded that residence halls are not designated storm shelters and available only for residents.
With the exception of essential university personnel, anyone who violates the mandatory curfew is subject to legal action, including arrest.
