Sheila took six weeks of FMLA to care for her daughter. She has accepted a position as Financial Manager and Administrative Assistant with the NFSMI - Applied Research. She is very happy in her new position.

Dr. Frances Martin has just resigned, retirement from School of Nursing effective December 2005 as well as her husband, Dr. Jim Martin from Library Science.

Would it be safe to say that the mass exodus of faculty and staff is now over...How many faculty and staff vacancies exist at USM now?

I didn't take the time to count, but there are four (4) pages of job announcements on the USM Human Resources website. In my more than nine years on campus, this is an all time high!

I suspect that the Martins would not have retired yet had it not been for SFT. Even though Jim was not one of the "fired" deans, he was under fire from the start. God bless those who have hung in there with the library during these difficult times.

Yes, John McCarty left the Geology Department in August to go into private industry.
