I have not been a regular poster to this board. I have made a few posts in the last few weeks, sometimes not well received. I am really not a bad guy...i support the cause.
I think we need to evaluate our posters....I really like Stephen Judd. You are out in the open...not afraid to take a stand...have good ideas...you accept criticism well...and you have well thought out opinions and proposals.
I know there are many others...Robert Campbell,,,who is gone...and others that have made good contributions to this board.....
As the new school year begins....let''s give some compliments out to the folk's that have made a difference on this board...and in the direction of usm.....Stephen...you have made a difference....
Who has made a difference or has made you PROUD that the good fight has been made?
Evaluate the posters....give them some compliments.....and thanks Stephen....
LVN is a perennial favorite of mine...she's been around since the beginning and always keeps us on the straight and narrow! Also, Jameela Lares, Austin Eagle, Emma, Ray Folse, Amy Young, USM Sympathizer, Babbs, See More, of course Fire Shelby (from the old days)...I'm sure I'm missing some. I miss Judge Cooley, his Risk Manager, and his Risk Manager's Assistant...those were the good ole days!
I don't always agree w/stinky cheese man, but he's been around awhile and usually has thought-provoking posts.

I appreciate the posters I've been privileged to meet in person or email privately (you know who you are). The board has widened my horizons immeasurably. I too miss the Cooleys.
And like most of you I particularly appreciate those who are most present by their absence, Frank and Gary.
And I must add a special note of appreciation for truth's willingness to be the email nexus through whom many of us have made our connections. Thank you, Andrea. It means more than you know.
USM Sympathizer is another favorite. He has a good blend of serious and humorous posting (as does Invictus). USMS can be very funny and I enjoy his humor, but he also has provided some of the most thoughtful and insightful serious posts that we've had.
My all time favorite humorist though is On the Bus. I crack up thinking of that great thread. What a fun day we all had!
My vote(s) go to Invictus, , Stinky cheese, Stephen, and USM Sympathizer. Informative, interested in good discussion, etc.
For Humor - Hands down its See More. I'm amazed at how creatively funny See More is. It is like we have our own "Onion" - does that make it "See more Onion"?

Aw shucks . . .
I certainly do remember that ride with fondness . . . (in the spirit of all the ellipses we have been spilling lately)
To name all my personal favorites would be too difficult, and I would be afraid I might accidentally leave someone out. Needless to say, reading this board has often been a real source of inspiration to me. It is wonderful to see people who care enough about their school to fight to save it. I only wish you folks at USM were getting even more support from academics around the country; I'd like to think that we would all rally to support each other if help was ever necessary, as I think it has been at USM. My warmest wishes and sincerest admiration to all of you who are really "in the trenches."
I'll also include David Johnson, AE, all that goes with Kinky, TRUTH, disgusted student, Allen Ludite, Coastliner (since you started this), Noel Polk, Anne Wallace - hell, the whole past and present English Dept. - you know who you are, Mitch, JH, MF, and anyone who has a dog (via practice or theory) in this fight. Mr. Wizard, you are included as well.
Is it my imagination, or did activeboard once have a simple "reply" somewhere closer than at the top of the thread? Or is this just my memory playing tricks on me? If my recollection IS correct, this raises the question: why can't activeboard leave well enough alone?

Me neither, dude. cl is either crazy or crazy like a fox. Either way I smell an agenda, even if it's only to waste our time. I think it's more about drawing out information.

I'd second those already nominated by Truth and Emma. I'd also add Invictus and the always profound Professor W.J. Johnson to the mix, as well as Curmudgeon.

Okay, how did I miss Stephen Judd? USM Symph was right...it's difficult to start naming names because then you always forget people!
People with your hearts and minds in the right place, you know who you are!
Truth, email matchmaker to the stars!
(PS--I think I can claim credit for Invictus and Austin Eagle getting together to share bootlegs of Dylan concerts, but I might need to keep that on the down-low from the feds!)

That's the RIAA we're dodging, Truth. They're all over Nashville, SO KEEP IT QUIET, WILLYA?
But thanks for reminding me to run home to check the downloads

Now that some of us have congratulated themselves for being the "best" posters - which seems to be based more on one's humor than on substance - can we get back to the original goals of Fire Shelby - the ultimate poster - and work on getting rid of Shelby and his henchcrew?

Who among us "congratulated themselves?" Are you peeved because you weren't mentioned? Having a bad day? What's your beef with humor anyway? FYI, humor and substance aren't mutually exclusive. Humor, including satire, is often the preferred device for addressing matters of substance.
I think the original question coastliner asked was "who has made a difference?" I listed who I thought had made a difference, in my opinion, on this msg. board (as best as my feeble brain could remember). If you don't like the thread, then don't read it (and please start another one if you want to go in a different direction with the conversation). That's the beauty of this msg. board!

I'll keep things quiet in Music City for ya, Vic...to be honest, I think the folks on Music Row are more interested in promoting Faith Hill's new CD than going after 2 Dylan fans trafficking in bootleg tapes across state lines! But you never know...

Stop picking on Angeline. She's having a mean day. We're all entitled to one every now and again.

I'm really not picking on Angeline...in fact, I should've mentioned her as one of the posters who has been around awhile and contributed greatly to the board.

Truth, there's no need to apologize. I didn't think you were picking on Angeline. I was actually poking fun at her cranky mood today. I should have known better than to employ humor, lame attempt that it was. The next time I'll supress the urge. I'd hate to get on her wrong side and lose my job
