Web Redesign Launched

To The Southern Miss Family:

On Monday, August 9, you should notice the roll out of our Southern Miss website redesign.  This has been a massive project for Geoff Locicero and his staff, and I am very pleased with the previews that I have seen.  I anticipate that you are going to be delighted with the progress they have made in bringing our web presence up to more current technology and marketing standards.

Whenever a complete redesign like this is undertaken, we should expect that there will be a few links that don't quite work, as well as some other small glitches.  Please help us by identifying any problem areas.

I ask that you please take the time to check out thoroughly the pages on our website that pertain to your division or academic unit and note any things that need to be corrected or addressed.  Then I encourage you to give Geoff and his staff your polite feedback and your cooperative assistance in identifying those things that need to be tweaked.

Thank you for your patience and your support on this important website redesign.  Geoff and his team deserve a big round of applause from all of us!

SMTTT!

That does not look good. 80% above the fold is just a large picture, and not even a great picture.

Judge for yourself.

I was a member on the web redesign panel, and I think this design is great compared to what we have had in the past. This site is finally starting to use technologies that are up to current standards. Everything is accessible from the front page. Great job, Geoff!

The picture is a bit much.

This is like far too many university websites, as it wastes large amounts of "above the fold" space with a large graphic, that takes bandwidth to load.  Esthetics trumps usability and information-deficient design.
