Regardless of the voting record, this is an unacceptable record for an appointed official, especially in such an important agency. That's a 36% absence rate. Most of us would have already been fired from our jobs (barring true emergencies, of course.) Ms. Robinson is a well-regarded person, and it may be that this post is just too much extra on her plate. I agree that she should consider stepping aside. And I would say the same for any other member.

Robinson's record aside, most of the other absences seem to come from a familiar "voting bloc" (Klumb, Ross, Colbert, Whitten)...

ms. robinson may be caught between a rock and a hard place. A middle-manager at her firm told me in the spring that her work for IHL was interfering with her job performance and there were some other employees (not this person) that were not too happy with the situation. The person who told me this had no real bone to pick with Ms. robinson. it just came up in the course of a conversation about usm and ihl. when i saw the data above, the earlier conversation just clicked. i have also heard from 2 other sources (one a high school classmate) that ms. robinson is not the sharpest blade in the drawer. with a heavy (and unnecessary) load at ihl, there may be a capacity constraint kicking in here.

given that the board members receive no salary from this position, are reimbursed at Mississippi's miserable per diem rate and get mileage, it is a wonder that they show up at all.

Plus they generally make big political contributions to get the appointments. Is this a looking glass or a rabbit hole here?

It's all about ego, really & more related to the social pecking order in the Mississippi Democraptic & Republikan parties than anything else.

All that said, I for one am very happy that a man of Roy Klumb's "intellect" is not setting our hunting seasons or setting policy for the Department of Wildlife, Conservation & Parks. Academic freedom is all well & good, but most professors don't spend the whole day wearing camo & carrying high powered rifles. I would not want the sportsmen of this state as upset as the faculty at USM, that's for sure!

PCorCP, I realize that what you said is a commonly held belief, but I can tell you that political contribution was definitely not a factor in some past appointments.
