Georgia problems glossed over in higher ed hire

...So Meredith comes to us with less than a perfect recent history. And the College Board has danced around full disclosure on the public's right to know whom it is paying....

From the CL story linked in the previous post:

"And when Perdue cut the higher education system's budget by $68 million, Meredith allegedly angered the governor by proposing a midyear tuition hike, the newspaper said."

I don't see this as a problem. It tells me that Meredith has backbone.

I agree. I view his willingness to speak out at the risk of political unpopularity a strength. The big risk is that his administrative experiences with the Georgia system were so traumatic to him that he will come to Mississippi gunshy.

The Clarion Ledger seems to be looking for a story. The "problems" seems to me to be "political" differences. There were no problems with academic leadership or integrity. It seems Meredith fought to keep the politicians out of Higher Ed. and the politicians didn't like it.

Actually the real question may be the backside of the story -- who is raising the questions nbehnd the scenes. What you can bet is there is some political chicanery going on early to undrmine the incoming commissioner.

There could be any number of agents who have an interest here . . but a story like this is not accidental and I doubt that the paper simply went looking for it.
