From the Hattiesburg American today:

"It has heightened our scrutiny to ensure that
summer school is making its way in terms of
supporting itself," said Provost Bob Lyman.

Not only supporting itself, but making a profit -
with tuition revenue exceeding teacher salaries and
operating costs this summer.

Lyman said before the summer he asked the deans
to submit to him courses with "an overall analysis
that shows profitability."

The result is five colleges in the black.

Lyman said the model of college-driven budget
management became more formalized this year, with
less of an emphasis on the profit margin of
individual courses and more on each college as a
whole.

What does this mean for the upcoming UPC recommendations and Executive Cabinet decisions?
