Faculty members on CY appointments get fewer days off than faculty members on AY appointments. Administrators such as chairs are typically on CY appointments, but I've noticed that they seem to be absence more frequently than faculty on AY appointments. Strange.
speaking of calendars-does anyone know why USM's Spring Break doesn't line up with the public schools? I know that OG and Forrest County have Spring Break in March, this is going to create another hardship for staff
From my read of the Provost's calendar, there won't be any conflict for faculty because they'll be in their offices during Spring Break, no matter whether it's the same as the public schools' Spring Break or not.
Those on 12-month appointments earn vacation days that they can take pretty much whenever they want. I was always grateful for my vacation (Spring Break) when I could visit my elderly parents or take the little grandkids to Disney. I appreciated the vacation days, even though I was restricted by the academic calendar as to when I could take them (e.g., no anniversary trip in February). Now I see that I don't get them at all.
Is this account backed by two reliable sources? and Is this an example of making the news, breaking the news or both?
I just passed along the email I received from my chair. "Contracts are in your mailboxes. See me if there are errors." You can use my “track record” for truth or you can wait for two reliable sources for confirmation.
Just to confirm, we've had a similar communication in English, and I picked up my contract today. I didn't check the stack of envelopes to see if they were all there, but I'd be surprised if someone didn't make sure, since mail can sometimes go missing in the best of times.
Yes, CoAL contracts are in the departments, but beware mistakes - look before you sign. The dean's office staff is scrambling to correct several contracts with the wrong salaries listed.

Heck, in all the years I worked at USM, they never spelled my name right. And I corrected it every year on the contract.

No, That number was assigned to Timmay. Unless you are him, but I doubt it. He is probably too busy screwing people at his po-dunk university.
