Seriously, somebody do the math. I think the big difference is that it costs USM several thousand more dollars per FTE to provide instruction, even when the good ole "research and service" expenses are excluded from the mix.

I understand there's a plan afoot to have JCJC absorb USM, and designate USM's Hattiesburg facilities as a branch campus. Jones County Jr. College needs a larger football stadium, and they're also looking into establishing a doctoral program in Economic Development. They'd be the first Juco in the country to offer a Ph.D., and it'd all be done on-line. Sounds like a perfect fit to me.

No, there's already a "Forrest County Campus" of JCJC, on Highway 29 South. I heard that Pearl River CC is going to absorb USM, giving Becky Askew her revenge on Shelby.

Got it backwards, PRCC has the campus in Forrest County, they beat JCJC out of what was funded by Jackson as a joint JCJC/PRCC workforce development center in Forrest County. JCJC is still stinging over that one.
