One of the reasons your AAUP is alienating so many people is your constant harping on SFT. Listen, LG, he just isn't the whole problem! He has done some things that we wish we could undo, sure enough, but your precious AAUP, this message board, and all the clandestine things that have been done and said in the name of "intellectual freedom" is at least as much a problem.

Why would somebody that has no real roots in the Hattiesburg area and employable skills want to stay somewhere that negativism is the ambiance? I spend a lot of time on campus, and there is a pretty positive atmosphere except with you AAUP guys. Now I realize that a significant number of the faculty will be relieved when Shelby is gone, but most of them don't let Shelby dominate their lives. You can have lunch with them and they talk about many things of interest, but spend more than thirty seconds with one of you people and you get bludgeoned to death with all the problems Shelby has caused. Heck, I know Shelby, and he just ain't that powerful.

Now about your statement: Are you saying that few of you are up to tier one or two standards, and if so why not? Is your talent level lacking, or have you been holding back in the class rooms and cheating the students. alumni, and taxpayers? Which is it?

If there is one, that is one too many. I won't guess, because I know within a very small margin of error, but whatever I said, you would double it. I read Myron Henry's one millionth letter to the editor in the local fish wrapper about midas. I was curious to see his allegation that so many fine faculty members deserve bonuses, but yet according to you all we are going down the tubes. How in the heck can we have so many fine faculty, but be going down, down, down? You are the ones saying we are going down, not me. Why can't somebody explain this to me. It seems to me that if we have a bad president but the classrooms are filled with noble, dedicated professors, we should be at least holding our own.

AtM, You could put the tiny number of USM AAUP members in a small classroom and still have room for a small elephant. What does the small number of AAUP members tell you about the voting pattern of the 90%+ no confidence vote by the entire faculty? Think about it. Test your powers of logical thinking.

"You pretend to not like Shelby Thames, but you are actually trying to infiltrate our group and secretly promote SFT policy."

I happen to like Shelby. I get along fine with him, but he has no business continuing to lead our university. As far as that bull s#$@ about pretending to dislike him but secretly trying to promote his policies--that's so preposterous I don't won't even address it.

My point is simple. The aaup, including Robert Campbell and this message board does more to create ill will than Shelby Thames could if he continued for abother 20 years--which he won't. Those of you who do have good judgement need to examine the value of expressing your opinions on an aaup medium. Trust me, it's not flattering.

“Above the Mire”, just like the other trolls, have the same message over and over. "Stop this discussion on the AAUP Board because it is creating 'Ill Will' in the community."

Again we point out that it isn't the message but the "emotions" and "hurt feelings" that concerns them. It isn't the facts or the logical arguments (most community members can't follow it anyway) but the sheer arrogance of "employees speaking out against the actions of their bosses". They have been "programmed" not to put up with such insubordination since the time of the slave revolts.

Finally, if we only had "good judgment" we would see that it would be a good thing to give up our freedom of speech. How many other trolls had the exact same message?

I am glad to know that the existence of this Board is hacking off many people in Hattiesburg. People in Hattiesburg have hacked off faculty. Now both sides are hacked off. Maybe those who are in the know about how angry the people in Hattiesburg have become can give us some tips on how to take their anger to a higher level. They will never change their mind about faculty no matter who comes to USM as faculty. Since I am too old to leave, making them angry is a good substitute. Indeed, I see no reason not to make them livid.

There's anger and then there's resentment. Anger can be righteous and healing and a motivator for change. When it sits in your soul too long and turns to resentment is when it becomes spiritual and mental acid.

I like thinking of the people who have done me wrong getting to enjoy the fruits of their own efforts. Its amazing to think about the messes they have created, and usually they hurt themselves more in the long run than they ever hurt me. ST, for example. Who does he really have on his side anymore? The henchbunch are slinking away one by one.

I remain unconvinced that the posters who try to split the USM faculty by encouraging the alleged "mainstream" to repudiate the AAUP chapter, while blaming the alleged radicals for spreading ill will in the community, are actually from the community.

One troll who's been here under multiple names (such as Online Prof and Albert) appears to be a USM graduate with resentments against one or more of his professors.

More recently we've had the Above the Mire/Son of Bubba poster, and the Mama Troll/Gracie's Mom/USM Product poster. Mama Troll's comments about tenure made it obvious that he (yes, he) was a USM administrator. Above the Mire's most recent rhetoric (if not merely borrowed from the Mama Troll poster) suggests another administrator posing as a person from the Hattiesburg area with no university affiliation.

I wonder whether Shelby Thames knows that people in his administration, who would not keep their jobs unless they professed unending loyalty to him, are coming on this board and telling its readers that he should not remain president of USM.

The problem with your messages is that you never have any substance to them. documentation, never any verified facts, and never any proof. You lurk in the background until the message thread develops, and then you jump in with some made up crap that has no substance to it at all.

Now I'll have to leave on that one. It's just too well documented. How can I challenge such a well founded and factual argument. Even if your argument is a little lacking in its accuracy, just the mention of a well respected source like the Hattiesburg American wins the argument hands down. The HA is respiected and admired by dead fish all over the Southeast.

Hove I responded to this idiot before? I've read his blatherings, but I don't think I've actually responded to them. He's not even a flea on the elephant of my life, but he stands for a lot of things I detest sure enough. Not the least in being a hyopocrit. He's always talking about lofty ideals like truth and acuracy, but he consistently throws out unsubstantuated allogations to back up his arguments. He's a fake, and a pretty pathetic one at that. If you like him, you can have him.
