The "losers" will go back to what they were doing before they were so rudely interrupted, those of them still here, that is. They will work, teach, research, serve, and all the things they LIKE to do and WANT to do. A few losers may even come back. Btw, they are losers, and so are you, and so are the rest of our students. USM has lost an incredible amount of talent, energy, prestige, and some damn good people. Yes, I think "loser" sums it up nicely.

On a serious note: this board did not exist before Shelby; it will probably cease to exist, at least in its present form, after Shelby is gone. Shelby is the unique factor at USM (and indeed in American higher education); fortunately, there aren't too many other people walking around on the planet who combine all the special traits of ineptness he embodies. It's the Shelby fans (I presume you are one) who can't quite seem to figure this out.

Now please head back to the Troll Village and don't bother us any more.

I think I will drink the other half of that bottle of Colt 45 I have out in the frig in my garage. I drank the first half the day I learned Noel Polk had left. I'll finish it the day Thames leaves office.

Thanks, LVN. As you know from your reading of Dr. Faustus, we all kind of miss The Other Guy, but it's too late now to do anything about that. In the meantime, though, I can derive some pleasure from tormenting blockheads like Just Wondering.

In most cases the battles in academia are so fierce because the stakes are so small. It's so seldom in an academic's lifetime that the stakes become enormous, and the principles to fight for so very important. Mr. or Ms. Wondering, you had the privilege of being a witness to one of those events. Many here signed their posts "No Quarter."
