Another excellent letter reminding us of what a university is suppose to be.  I wonder if the EagleTalkers will be attacking this one.

I join the chorus. It's good to have some new names writing letters.

I checked and couldn't find the name “Kanade” in the USM directory.  It's nice having a member of the community respond in such an insightful way.

Wonderful letter!

And why am I not surprised that, under Thames, USM doesn't just aspire to have an athletic program that wins championships? It has to be the best in the entire USA... if not the entire world.

In fact, USM has applied for membership in the IGAA -- the Intergalactic Athletic Association.

While I am in agreement with the overall premise of the letter, I am baffled at its cause.

The goal cited -- that nonsense about building "the finest athletics program in the country" -- and the website linked in the online version, refer to the "Win-Win campaign that ended when the bond proposal was defeated in November 2004, a good seven months ago.  Why are we talking about this dead issue again?

Of course, I also wonder why the site is still up and running.  There's some good server space being wasted somewhere.

Am I missing something obvious?
