Ph.D. (and M.A.) in Higher Ed. Administration. She taught speech before entering higher education administration. See this link to a September 2002 C-L story on Frances Lucas: http://orig.clarionledger.com/news/0209/29/lsunday.html. Google and you will find other information on her.

Don't these statements contrdict one another? Why would he help SFT 'behind the scenes' and not his daughter, if that's his style?
"We all know that Lucas hasn't publicly opposed SFT. That doesn't necessarily mean that he has supported SFT. "
There is another thread about the potential for reconciliation between town and gown. I suspect that reconciliation will take place (if it takes place at all) at the instance of those who are not seen as extremists. Perhaps AKL has tried to remain in that category.
Please note that I distinguish between extremists and those who are seen as extremists. "Extremism in defense of liberty is no vice."
From her interview, F. Lucas sounds as if she would be a vast improvement over Shelby. Would the Hattiesburg community and alumni support someone such as this?

Reconciliation may be too strong a term. Best case might be a cease fire followed by a truce. HBG may be too provincial a place to tolerate a university. The locals have to decide if they can live with some foreigners they don't much care for in order to have a university. The alternative can be found in say, Monroe, LA.
Would F. Lucas even be interested in USM? Sounds as if she has a good job where she is -- a place that shares her values. It's hard to imagine the Eagle Talk folks embracing someone who speaks as she does.

There also is speculation that SFT has something on Lucas. That is the way Thames operates--using people like Moore that have something in their backgrounds that compromises them.
Unless this is the case, there is absolutely NO excuse for Lucas not speaking up. In fact, even if it were the case, he has abrogated his responsibility.
