The USM Eagles were eliminated from C-USA tournament action in another big loss to the TCU horned frogs. TCU moves on to face #1 Tulane tomorrow for the championship. Some Green Wave fans are already calling this year's tourney "The Tulane Invitational Tournament" but the Frogs may have something to say about that, assuming the rains don't interfere. The forecast calls for lots of the wet stuff over the next 2 days.
USM was #33 in RPI heading into today's action. With today's loss, expect the Eagles to fall at least a couple of spots.
Over in Hoover, Ole Miss took two impressive wins against the Florida Gators to move into tomorrow's SEC Championship. There they will face State, who beat Tennessee today and remains undefeated in tournament action. The SEC title will be an all-Mississippi affair. Very impressive.
In Montgomery, Delta State beat Chico State in the first round of the Division II CWS. DSU is off to a good start in defense of their national title from last season. Great job.
Lu Harris-Champer's Georgia softball team beat UCLA in game 1 of their Super Regional in Los Angeles on Friday night. UCLA just won game 2 (5-4) so a third game will be necessary to determine the trip to the WCWS. Good luck Lu.
C-USA Notes: CPR has heard reports that Dr. Thames is fuming about the Eagles' performance as host of this year's tourney. If the 2003 loss to Utah in the Liberty Bowl is an example, then Coach Palmer has likely gotten an earful by now. Some of his press conference remarks seem to have been directed at some other than just media elements. Maybe more later. Several visiting fans asked directions to "Nitchampburg, MS" this week. It seems USM's very own little "tradition" has sparked interest, as many photos were taken (and laughs had) at that place "unlike any other" in the college basketball world.
It is an almost famous story now about how Thames had to be restrained after USM's loss to Utah. His treatment of Bower then should've cleared up any doubts anyone had about what kind of individual he is.

I've been associated with five or six universities, and have never, never heard of a president acting like this towards "his" coaches. Hey, man, they're not "your" coaches and its not "your" team. Who does he think he is, anyway? (Don't answer that.) When all is said and done, ole Shebby needs to remember he's an employee like ever'body else.

Duly noted, Invictus. We monitor 24/7. I'm having fried catfish with some friends this afternoon. Mr.Wonderful is somewhere on the road and will probably be dining at his favorite truck stop. The weather is beautiful at 80's Lady's vacation cottage and I understand she is laid back with a drink in one hand and a coconut in the other. As for #1 Groupie, her whereabouts is anybody's guess.
