What happened to the post about Gandy's spouse getting hired by Hudson without going through  proper channels?  If it got deleted by the Webmaster it may have been to protect an innocent colleague or to prevent Hudson-bashing now that he's gone.  However, I think that post brought up some important issues worthy of discussion.

USM does a poor job of dealing with dual career issues.  Having been affiliated with four universities (three of which were higher tier) since graduate school, I have never seen the issue dealt with as poorly as at USM.   Recruiting and retaining quality people means dealing with this issue and dealing with it without the assumption that there is inherent evil in the process.  Of course it also means that administrators and search committees need to be trusted and that there needs to be a climate of goodwill and cooperation.  Too much operating in secrecy and too much history of backroom dealings. 

Just re-read my last two sentences.  Now I understand.
