Nursing program

Also high among Thames' priorities is improving the nursing programs at both the Hattiesburg and Gulf Coast campuses, devoting more resources to a construction technology program and continuing to support already strong programs like educational leadership and psychology and ocean and earth sciences.

As part of the plan to improve the nursing program, the former Garden Park Hospital on the Gulf Coast and Albertsons grocery in Hattiesburg were purchased for classroom space.

Although the former hospital will be ready for use by this fall, Thames said he is continuing to search for funding sources to back the $6 million to $8 million renovation of the grocery.

"This will allow us to increase the size of our nursing programs, but we also have to be able to attract the faculty," he said.

-----------------------------------------

Of course, none of this would have been necessary before SFT arrived. All this is doing is trying to fix the mess he created.

As opposed to running them off and destroying their program?? What a pleasant change that will be!

One thing that should be seriously considered is reducing the size of the nursing program.  Get a good foundation of faculty, increase the quality of instruction, improve our annual scores, then increase the size of the program........just my 2 cents

What if the deal that the IHL and Mr. Thames struck included a provision for the possibility of the institution remaining on SACS probation? Something like, if the institution continues on probation he will promptly resign...

He is here for two years.  Period.  Probation needs to end for everyone's sake

In the Know, not one of us can say what will happen in two years. He could die. He could get religion or have a stroke or anything. Or in about six months if people are smart, he could be here and be completely powerless. He can't do all this harm by himself. If people just quit OBEYING, there's very little he can do. (I know, I know, that's simplistic. I just like the idea of mass passive aggression.)

Yeah. Is there some number of people who can be fired before the place just shuts down? Look at Poland. Look what that took. Mass non-violent resistance.
