This has been brought up before, but I took the prerogative and looked for myself.
After researching a little, I found what it means to be classified as a Carnegie Doctoral/Research Extensive univeristy, and I encourage any other alumni who are noneducators to look at it (www.carnegiefoundation.org), and you will see just how stupid Thames makes our university look by going around saying that it is a ranking.
Basically, it's no different from being classified as a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior. If you meet the criteria your classified as one or the other, but it does not mean that you are the best of your classification. I was a senior at Southern Miss, but by no means the smartest senior (by analogy, Harvard v. Southern Miss). And because I was a senior didn't mean there weren't freshmen a lot smarter than me (by analogy, Southern Miss v. Millsaps (perhaps?)).
Anyway, Thames' spinning is not just making him look bad, it is making your school look second rate!!
Yes it is. And it is making your school look bad also. It'd be interesting to know just how many USM Alums have written IHL demanding that a stop be put to all of this spinning.
