Dr. Mallory, former Chair of the CJ Department, is going to Ole Miss and Dr. Bolton, Chair of the History Department, is going to UNC in Greensboro. They are leaving due to frustration with the administration.

They will both be missed greatly.

Indeed they will both be missed sorely.  Both were gentlemen with standards, two characteristics missing from the SFT Administration.

That's two of our very best profs snagged by UNC Greensboro (Wallace and Bolton).

As was noted previously, KK, Albert, Son of Bubba, and all you other unfriendlies, they're all leaving for BETTER schools. That should tell you guys something.

I find it interesting that the faculty is realistic enough to know there are better schools than USM, but the higher administration seems reluctant to admit that better schools exist. Therein, KK, Albert, Son of Bubba, and all you other unfriendlies, is your lesson for today.

Many of us are struggling with SACS or other accreditation issues because of the lack of institutional data.  If you want to get a case of institutional envy, check out UNC-G web site.  All of their data is available to all comers to be sliced and diced any way you want it.  We get to put in one request at a time to our coworkers who are already crushed with work.  One more time:  some of our staff members and just getting hammered in this situation.

Please post a specific link to the area of their site you're talking about. I checked their factbook pages & it was one "404ed" dead link after another.

(UNC-G does have their faculty & student web services running on SCT Banner, which would probably strike most USM faculty as a lot nicer than PeopleSoft/SOAR/whateverelse. As a rule, finance types like PeopleSoft & student services/faculty types like Banner.)

Invictus,

I'm going to ire.uncg.edu which is their home page.  I'm not having any trouble with dead links.  I can't reconcile our two experiences.  Maybe I'm just too used to nothing at USM and am easily impressed, but I thought the data presentation was excellent for a school at that level.  I understand that "special request" there is something on the order of what were the ACT math scores and College Algebra grades for students taking basic statistics for the first time that made a grade less than C?  Not all that hard if you've got good DBM people.

Sorry for any confusion.

Janis Joplin,

As a singer yourself, you may be interested in learning that one of the most famous entertainers to attend UNC-G was Emmylou Harris. She was there for only 1-1/2 years when she transferred to Boston University.

An early sign of a quality person.  UNCG is a good place.  However, it takes a lot of smarts and guts for a 19-20 year old to recognize their own worth on move up the food chain.  I've tried to talk a number of kids over the years into that move but very few have the confidence at that age to move on.  You need to be in with your peer group to develop.  The recruiting of 30+ ACT students at USM has always made me a little uneasy.

That's not what Chuck said.  He said it is a good opportunity for him near his family and that of his wife.  It isn't about admin.

It is certainly true that Chuck is leaving because he got a great offer.  However, there is no way at all that Chuck would have even started looking for a job had it not been for the horrific admin of SFT and pals.  Chuck went to USM as an undergrad.  He is from right down the road in Picayune.  He and his family love this place.  All of those factors put together, though, could not outweigh his distaste for the administration.  So yes he got a great deal.  However, he would have remained happy in his own backyard and never sought such a deal without SFT.  That is one of the greatest problems created by SFT.  Before him faculty were happy to be here, though they suspected that they were underpaid.  Now he has them all looking -- and they realize that much greener grass exists elsewhere.
