Thames the talk of College Board

...Thames met with the College Board a year ago to talk about his plans for the university. Thursday he issued a statement about today's meeting.

"I have communicated candidly and often with the board regarding implementation of its priorities, as well as my vision and passion to position Southern Miss for continued growth," he said. "We are a work in progress as Southern Miss continues to focus on students, academic excellence, research, economic development and fiscal responsibility.

"I respect the board and the protocol called for as it relates to this meeting and will not speculate about the content or outcome of (the) meeting."
