One story we're hearing over and over is about the tremendous pressure the coaching staffs are under to produce winning programs in the SFT era. Eustachy has talked openly about it on television, indicating that he told SFT he needed time to develop his program. He once said on his coaches show "Dr. Thames thinks we should be winning now" (paraphrase).
The 2004 New Orleans Bowl win was the first bowl victory since the 2000 GMAC/Mobile Bowl win over TCU. Many forget that. And, many hesitate to put much into the '04 NO Bowl win since the opponent was North Texas and it is the least of the bowls. So, to many (incl. SFT) the last bowl win is still 2000.
JLM's crew lost more than a handful of players recently --- a move similar to LE's of late. Word is that it stems from more "Thames Pressure." Corky has yet to make a Super Regional, and we hear he's getting an earful of "Thames Pressure."
The most famous story of this comes with the 2003 Liberty Bowl, when SFT reportedly had to be restrained after Utah completely stonewalled USM in Memphis. SFT apparently phoned Bower at his hotel and gave him an earful of expletives.
What could happen with 4 more years of SFT? He could make athletics as "world class" as he's made academics in the past 3/4 years. How? "Thames Pressure."
