There are many in the community that have been upset for a while at the perception that Jeff Bower does not recruit local talent. This February, just after national signing day, several local citizens "had enough" after USM failed to even talk to Oak Grove quarterback Zach Harrington. In response, several of the Harrington men (this is the same Harrington family that Hattiesburg High's baseball stadium is named after --- well known group) rounded up some friends who were also upset and they met for lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, they became a 3-car caravan headed over to USM. They made several stops. They stopped by Eagle Club headquarters where several of them dropped their Eagle Club memberships. Then they headed over to the USM Foundation where the Harringtons (and a few others) severed all ties with the USM Foundation and USM Athletics Foundation. Next, a few of them stopped by the Alumni House and cut their Alumni Association ties. After all was said and done, the caravan pulled off campus property. The result: USM reportedly lost a bunch of financial support in just under two hours.
I believe Zach signed with Southeastern Louisiana University on signing day. That's where former HHS QB Martin Hankins is the starting QB.
