Congratulations to Ole Miss!

Note this brief excerpt from the story:

What do USM's president, provost, and alumni want? I'm still trying to figure it out. All I know is that they don't want USM to be a respectable institution of higher learning.

This is wonderful news for the people of Mississippi. It suggests that Ole Miss faculty (who are not fundamentally different from faculty at USM) can accomplish great things if inspired by Old Miss administrators (who ARE fundamentally different from the present team of administrators at USM). As has been said time and again on this board, the only thing that makes USM different from the other universities in the state (and consequently dysfunctional) is the man at the top (plus a few of his cronies).

This is great news for Mississippi but again points out an area in which USM has lost ground. I chose USM because of the Honors College here in the late 70's/early 80's after being offered scholarships here and at Ole Miss. At that time, the Honors College at USM was much stronger and a better program.

It would be interesting to compare selectivity between the Ole Miss & USM programs now.

I doubt that there is a comparison. There are not many left in the English department to compare it with after this semester is over. Why make a fool of USM. The English department is one of the main departments for the honors program. I can't wait to hear what SACS has to say about an English department that teaches only technical writing and according to Thames that is all that there is to writing. I don't know that he understands reading at all.

Gawd, it's even worse than I thought. His confusion of bidness, economic development, etc. is pretty bad.

Our Barksdale scholar, after no search, was WCC's Beth Richmond, wife of Mark Richmond and close friend of Dana. Somehow she eluded a search after her 3 year stint and is now a tenured assoc. prof. The Surreal Dep. strikes again
