Thames Administration and the James Watt Award

Got to thinking today on the latest "incredibly stupid public statement" from a Thames supporter, and it reminded me of Noel Polk's comment from last year, about SFT seeming to be a man "shooting off his own toe, then declaring he had a 'world-class foot'."

With the recurrent incidents, it makes one wonder if the USM administration is constantly "channeling" the spirit of former Secretary of the Interior James Watt.  For younger readers, some history here -- in April 1983, Interior Secretary Watt banned the Beach Boys from performing at the Washington Monument on the grounds that they, their music, or both, were un-American.   However, when his boss (President Reagan) declared himself to be a fan of the Beach Boys music, the ban was rescinded, and the Beach Boys performed at the White House.

Furthermore, Secretary Watt was awarded the first "Shoots himself in the foot" Award by President Reagan.  I wish that I could find an image of this ceremony and the award (a plaster cast of a foot with a hole through it), because it seems that every time you turn around, the Thames administration is passing this award around from person to person.

"A Strange Sort of Secretary" has a picture of the foot award and, for those who don't remember, a few famous quotes from the Reagan appointee.

I'm just trying to attract Miss Information's attention as I sit here reading an old copy of Mad Magazine.

Before I even pulled up the thread, your great nom caught my eye.  Miss I?  Well, you've got your work cut out for you.  She's one tough cookie.

Thanks, info!  That's the award I remembered, but too bad it's such a poor photo, because the "plaster foot" had a clear hole through the entire thing!
