The IHL Board voted 11-1 today to keep Thames on board as USM's President through next year. There was an overwhelming view that Thames should remain on to smooth the transition for new football recruit Marcus Raines. If Thames had been removed, the Board felt it would have been contributing to a "broken promise" to give Raines a second chance at life. As the USM press release pointed out, that's what the university exists for. Since Thames promised to support Raines' journey into secondchancehood, the Board believed it has an obligation to support Thames in that effort.
