Dear Mr. Pittman:

Please do a small piece in the next issue of your paper on Mr. 'Toy' McLaughlin, President of USM's Foundation.  He's saying some pretty unsavory things in public these days.

Thanks,

waltersboy

Someone needs to put a muzzle on that guy (there's nothing "Toy-like" about him!!!).

Actually, I hope he continues to speak his mind.  He is thereby giving us great insight into the kind of folks who support Shelby (and work closely with Shelby).

It IS kind of strange, though, to read foul-mouthed, violent rantings from someone who cites the Bible as his favorite book. . . .

I would expect him to advert to the story of the moneychangers in the temple as his holy precedent. That is always the one used to justify "I just couldn't take it any more."

But even there, tables were overturned in order to make a serious point. No one was hurt.

LVN--

I agree, but that seems to be a finer point, easily dismissed.  We are typically expected to go no further than, "Even Jesus lost his temper when it was justified."  Thus, the argument shifts to why -- never whether -- the justification was sufficient.

You know, I've been hearing an average of three sermons or lessons per week for 50+ years.  I don't remember ever hearing a "message" based on the restraint Jesus may have shown, or the fact that his anger was directed toward things rather than people.  I think that would preach.

But we drift toward a topic that might best be allowed to rest. Lord knows, I'm in no position to cast stones.
