What's this? No more rumors or personal attacks? Surely you jest. That would represent a complete behavior change for many regular posters. Did you have occasion to digest the recent lengthy thread about the successor to Doty as COD dean? It was truly groundbreaking in the areas you mention, particularly with respect to Dr. DePree.
By "many regular posters" I trust that Goose means "many regular posters from the COB or pretending to be from the COB who have their own issues and axes to grind and choose to do so on this board."
It would be interesting for someone to review the Ugliness Factor on this board, discounting outright trolls and drunk undergraduates, and see how much Ugliness relates to threads with COB issues.
Most of the non-COB ugliness relates to people who stand out there and ask for it (the Kentucky Cabal, et al). Ugliness directed towards the undeserving tends to be challenged and/or corrected quickly by the "regular posters."

You are correct. I was making reference specifically to recent COB posts, which seemed to set a new standard for vitriol. I should have made that clear. However (and I'm as guilty of this as anyone) rumor, innuendo, and cruel remarks about the stature and physical appearance of those we revile aren't strangers to this board. I just felt the comment by "hen," while appropriate, was a bit late in coming.

C'mon, Dr. Campbell, you know as well as I that PR people are more adaptable than coyotes & have no problems changing to fit whatever the boss requires. I think it's because they contain a high plastic content.

But of course they contain a high plastic content. You don't think those PR folks are completely human, do you? Why do you think Ms. Mader was so exuberant about the Hybrid Plastics deal? Certain of her, uhhh, parts, were probably minted in Hybrid labs.
They don't call her "Miss Rubber Soul" for nuthin'.
Science, working today to give you a better tomorrow.
Remember, LVN, that the CoB isn't the only college to trash its dean. CoAL trashed Pood. The reasons given were understandable. I cannot fathom why the CoB's view of Doty is so offensive in light of the CoAL/Pood thing. If CoALers want everyone else to take their word that Pood is a schmuck, then they should be able to take the CoBers word about Doty's less-than-admirable activities.
I've always found it interesting how this board trashes Ms. Mader. If her job is to put spin and a good light on the happenings at USM, it appears to me that she has been doing her job. Goodness knows it hasn't been easy to make SFT look halfway good, but somehow she has managed to get many in the public and at minimum, several of the IHL members, to buy into her spin and PR releases. I may totally disagree with the administration at USM, but if she were to support the overthrow of SFT in public, then she should be fired. I think SFT needs to go and there is a good chance that she will go with him, but from a distance, it does seem to me she has done her job -- a very hard one at that!
Lisa Mader's job has required her to lie to the media, repeatedly. It has required her to badmouth people who work for USM, repeatedly.
It also required her to pretend that she speaks for the University of Southern Mississippi when in fact she speaks for one person, Shelby Freland Thames.
Keep in mind, too, that local newspapers are usually cozy with the governing board and the upper administration of the local university. Lisa Mader has squandered the automatic credibility with the locla media that usually attaches to her position.
You can blame that loss of credibility on her client, Shelby F. Thames--and by and large you'll be right. But Mader chose to work for him, and has chosen to keep working for him. Consequently, if Thames goes, she will have to go, too.
I expect she knows all of this, and is desperate to leave before Thames' successor fires her. In a major departure from her earlier pattern, she has been quoted in just a handful of stories about USM since early January of this year.
Contrary to Advocates's assertion, I have seen very little deft direction of the Gnome's public image--just some poorly written letters to the editor from a group of people whose aggregate IQ wouldn't add up to 100. In fact, one could easily write a thick book on the bungling public relations performances of this administration.
To anyone paying the slightest attention, Thames' public image is that of a ham-fisted Philistine. Unfortunately, there are a number of people in South Mississippi who have an appreciation for such a person.
Having worked with Ms. M briefly, I can truthfully say that I found her to be (how can I put this tactfully--oh well) an idiot, but an idiot of two disparate natures: One side is a hectoring virago to anyone below her that doesn't lick her boots, while the other is a remarkably talented sycophant to anyone ahead of her in the food chain.
Of course, I believe it is her obsequiousness that has made her who she is today. That fulsome ability to "suck" up to the right people has propelled her far beyond her level of competence.
