Heck, I may as well toss my .02 into this fray.  My Father was an undergrad at Mississippi Southern College in the late 1930's and an officer of the BSU, or Baptist Student Union, so if primacy matters,  the acronym at USM is likely more commonly associated with the Baptist student organization.  I entered the University of Kansas as a freshman in June, 1964, and there was at that time a very active Baptist Student Union, commonly referred to as the BSU.  I only recall this because of my Father's disappointment at my failure to join the group.  I do not recall ever hearing of a Black Student Union while at student at KU, or later as a grad student at Colorado (there was a Baptist Student Union at CU also), although there may have been  nascent, low profile black student organizations of which I was unaware.

I'm not acquainted with Dr. Williams or the circumstances of his resignation but the conspiracy lobe of my brain has me wondering about his treatment by Thames.  If an investigation is in order I'd say go for it, so long as Dr. Williams signs off on it.

Stir it up,

At the end of this we will see who are crackpots and who are trolls.

As I posted above, "His resignation was certainly not 'forced' - just more #$&@ from those who like to stir the crackpot-filled CoB crockpot.""

Stir it up, your explanation leads to a conclusion that Glamser and Stringer "participated" in "a scheme" to "weaken the Univ of Southern Mississippi."  If Williams to was removed from his post by Doty due to an order/arrangement from the dome, then AW didn't "participate" in anything.

Maybe someone should start a Paul Newman fan club on the USM campus and call it the Newman Club.

Doty has been telling his buds how glad he is that AW is out.  All the others are under control.

This is what I was getting at - note that the emphasis is now switching to set up a Doty/Williams split where none exists - what is the problem with the posters in CoB (or those pretending to be).

Ask Dr. Williams or ask Dean Doty - this is bs.

When you find out, would you let the rest of us know?

Has anyone stopped to think that maybe "stir it up" is someone in the dome, and doesn't want the truth to get out about William's forced resignation?  The stories about AW are now, today, just beginning to circulate widely.  They are coming from various sources, most are impeccable.

You don't have to force someone out. You just have to make their life miserable so that they walk away.  It has Doty's style written all over it.

Williams won't talk --- not his style.  Doty won't talk, part of the deed.

You're right AW will never talk.  He's a gentleman.  Doty is a snake in the grass.

Note that there is not one smidgeon of specific criticism - only nasty innuendo.

I wonder if some on the board are wanting others to look the other way on this because even scoundrels know you don't want to get caught messing with AW.

Only that AW is too much of a gentleman to ever talk about what happened.  Doty knows that gives him a lot of cover.

If you define anyone who disagrees as a troll ...

I have known Alvin Williams for 15 years. He has been a department chair for 17-18 years. He has been put on way too many university committees in addition to his responsibilities as chair. He teaches class and still manages to publish. He has a family and he is active in his church. He has been stretched too thin for some time and I have felt for some time that he may have to stop some of his activities. I do not see any benefit to the Dean or Associate Dean to have Alvin step down, indeed it will increase their work. In the spirit of fair play, I feel that we should let this topic die. Alvin has stated over and over that it was his decision. We should respect that.

Stir - Based upon my understanding of the stature and reputation of Dr. Williams - your comment above is absolutely on target.  Those that I know in CoB have said that all it would take would be a small, tiny, hint - and Dr. Williams could have virtually any position on this campus (Provost on down).  Based upon that, to think that there is some forced resignation is "crazy talk".
