Seven departments in COAL have no chair. How many departments are even in COAL? Evidently, an enormous percentage of the units in COAL have seen chairs flee.
Is their no oversight over this dean? Is it really possible to administer a college and under that administration have the place lose its most high profile and productive members and also the people who run its units? The answer is yes, obviously.
I urge reporters to get on this story. The largest college at this university suffers the largest loss of senior faculty, and there are NO CHAIRS to run seven of its major departments!!! Do the students, the public, not care?
It seems this administration clearly prefers to allow a failed administrator to continue doing more and more and more damage.....
Reporters: please provide the oversight that the senior administration does not.

Theatre and Dance has an interim Chair (Stacy Reischman) and is currently conducting a search for a permanent chair.
Jennifer Torres has been chair for a number of years and is rotating out of Art.

So, Jennifer is staying at USM, but going back to faculty status, correct?

I think she has a pretty good deal -- new facilities, a good faculty, a place to do her work. I could be wrong here but I think she mostly feels the want to be able to get out from under being an administrator.
So, trying to get a fix on this: there are 13 COAL departments (taking into account truth4usm's correction), at least 7 without or soon to be without chairs, and 2 more (the military spots) that aren't really even part of the picture. That leaves just 4 departments -- Ant&Soc, Music, Phil&Rel, and SpComm -- with someone currently in place to be at the rudder this fall.
