Just heard that S. Bushart will replace Alvin Williams as chair, on an Interim basis. Will start the transition this Summer. If I'm not mistaken, he was the chair of the department just a few years ago.
If true, that's a real blow for that department. Bushart is a poor substitute for Alvin in all sorts of ways. You can bet that morale in Management and marketing will drop seriously.

Bushardt had an admin post (Director of Grad Programs), but he wasn't chair a few years ago. I'm pretty sure Williams has been chair for over a decade...perhaps closer to two.
Bushart was chair of Management when Williams was chair of marketing and then marketing and finance. When the college was realigned, Williams got marketing and Management and Bushart got a regular office, then was made graduate director.
Bushart promptly proceeded to do nothing with the grad program, eventually bailing out of the post after sucking up all of the stipend money, effectively causing Bill Smith to have to fill the post gratis.
Bushart is not a good choice for this post, and the department will suffer mightily for his presence.

There may be some truth to this -- Bushart was seen in the Dean's office with the door closed late this afternoon. Later, Doty was seen in William's office. Any chance the real plan is to replace Doty with Williams when Doty leaves. With Williams as dean could Bushart serve as Chair?
It could happen, only Doty is not a sure thing anywhere else yet. If he leaves, that 3-way swap could easily happen. The only catch: AW has refused the Dean job more times than one can count. I don't see him taking the Dean post. I could envision Williams back to faculty, Bushardt into chair Mkt/Mgt, Doty leaving, and Lassen taking the Dean post.

Stephen, I am not the author of this post, though it appears that he/she has read my piece, Oper. Craw. Just thought I'd let you know. We'll talk later. Good luck with your new job.

How much truth is there in the possibility of Lessen taking over the dean's position?

GH, there was alot of talk about the possibility in the CoB today. It's a real concern over there. Lassen fancies himself a biz prof. He has an MBA. He was Biz Dean at Phoenix. All the signs are there. He was in the CoB just the other day as a matter of fact.

Is it just me or does he remind you of someone who hasn't grown up yet? I was able to observe him one time and he sounded like an imature freshmen in a fraternity! (no offense to fraternities or members thereof)
Seriously. No money. Bad leadership all the way to the top, that means up to the IHL and how the state is even run and structured. Who would want any type of admin. job at USM, much less a professor's job? A sane person, just like Nancy Reagan, would just say no. Maybe "no thanks" since we are in the Deep South. But I'd say "no f****n way!"

Dave Duhon is the perfect guy. Wanted it for at least a decade. Will do anything to get it or keep it. Be concerned if his name is mentioned. He is a Bushardt buddy.

I've served with Dave on committees and found him intelligent and friendly. I understand he would be a "perfect guy" for the job, but fail to understand the Bushardt "buddy" comment. Can you explain/enlighten
No one ever said he was not nice. He is nice. Very personable. Your request brings to mind an old saying: for those who believe, no explanation is necessary, but for those who do not believe, no explanation will be sufficient.
DISCLAIMER: A hypothetical story...any resemblence to those alive or dead is purely coincidental.
There once was a young, naieve, motivated employee. A more senior employee seemed to take him under his wing, mentor him, assist him, and work with him on important projects. The Senior employee would often to favors for the junior employee and would frequently compliment him on his work performance. The junior employee thought he had found a close friend in addition to a mentor. Over time, it began to occur to the junior employee that he was doing all the work, yet the senior employee was benefitting just as much from it as the junior employee. When the junior employee began to work more independently and receive the recognition and rewards, the senior employee began making negative comments about the junior employee. Morale to the story? Those who appear to be your closest friends may be your friend as long as you benefit them.
So where might one find the job advertisement for the chair of Management & Marketing at USM? I am sure that Dean Doty, given his memo to Provost Grimes, intends to follow all employment laws. I do suspect that many from FSU, UNF, etc. are reading this board and getting a good picture of the image of one of their applicants.
Instead of appointing a "chairman" the Dean ought to give the two relevant secretaries a big raise and let them run the department. That's what's going to happen anyway.

That's precisely the reason that it is improper to post speculations about a faculty member's job hunt without permission. I find it difficult to believe that a group of professionals are doing that.
I a little confused about this talk about Bushart. I always thought that Linda Jordan was chair of the management dept. before Alvin Williams took over.

The professionals in the business school are not "doing that". There are a very limited number of faculty members in the business school who are currently making the rest of us look bad and damaging the credibility of all business faculty. The good news is that the true professionals in our college and in other business schools understand that such individuals are best ignored. When profedssionals conduct searches we listen to professional references who use their names, not to the type of people who you see currently posting on this board.
