Actually, were I anywhere and heard that local "supporters" had put up a full-page ad saying that all was well in the local university,I would be astonished. Universities aren't local institutions. And if everything is wonderful, why is it necessary to spend thousands of dollars to say so? Imagine how we'd all feel if those same people ran an ad saying that all was well at [the real] Camp Shelby. We'd all probably wonder what was wrong there.
It's one thing to say that one does not shout at one's own family on the lawn, my dear Monique. But, as you well know from your days in my class, it is also considered impolite to peer through the windows of the neighbor's house and then make widespread commentary among the neighbors about the matters seen.
Dr. Doty's helping the cause 'this once' was, my child, a very good thing indeed. But, just because he has a beautiful rose garden that graces the entire neighborhood, we should not ignore the family when they tell us that he is beating them inside the house. It is not good to make observations too personal, either in lionizing Doty nor in demonizing others. Support (or attack) the behavior and not the individual, or I shall have to get my ruler out and blister a few hands. And you, Mlle de Guerre have been on the receiving end of that ruler more than once. Now, straighten your epaulets on your uniform and get to class, young lady.
All the more reason to publicize Faculty Senate Pres Dave Beckett's reasoned response. A nice bit of "free advertising" given how easy it would be for Thames supporters to outspend us. Thanks HA.
If you want to know how the CoB faculty really feel about Doty why don't you FOIA the Faculty Senate evaluations of Doty. The FS evaluations are not really personnel documents, were generated with public money, and thus are public records. When you speak with the facts, you'll probably discover that most of the CoB faculty support Doty. The real talk in the halls is that he is doing a pretty good job under difficult conditions.

You're right, and we're lining up behind Pood to keep him as COAL Dean when all this is over because he wrote a wonderful public op-ed piece in the HA defending his college and the university. He's a great dean (never mind that I don't know about anything actually going on with him inside the COAL)!!! We're behind him all the way.

Don't know of anyone in CoAL who would agree with this--Biz Ed alias E. Pood?

Just thought of this...while mentions of Doty on this board always seem to elicit a vareity of responses (all very passionate, though, I might add), mentions of Pood always elicit the same response...and it's not very positive. I've never seen one defense of Pood on this board that I can remember. Someone please point it out if I've missed it.

I must be on the wrong board this morning. Or maybe some other posters are on the wrong board. I have no interest in the personal squabbles of COB.

Is that right?
Well, then, I don't want to hear another word about Pood, Fos, Gandy, etc., on this board. Those of us not in CoAL don't care about what Pood does or who he does it to unless it's to help get Thames out. When this is all over, you can deal with them on your own.

Mlle de Guerre has asked me to respond to this message on her behalf. She is not amused. She begs to remind all that she is not a "young lady" and that she was never in your class, having been educated abroad. Furthermore, she does not permit herself to be spoken to in such a fashion, particularly when she is "on your side."
Mlle de Guerre states that she will henceforth not make any comments related to situations within the College of Business, as such remarks are clearly neither desired nor appreciated.
She made some further comments about your ruler, but they were in French and you probably would not want me to translate them.
On my own behalf, I would remind all that Mlle de Guerre regards herself as a friend and one who seeks only to boost morale within the Resistance. She does not wish to sow discord, but only to amuse and to make a point thereby. We shall confine ourselves to the "humanities" threads from now on. Excuse me, it is time to walk Dervish.
Sincerely,
Hermione Angleterre, Social Secretary to Monique de Guerre

Doty has strong support in COB among the faculty and staff with only a few exceptions. The exceptions tend to be concentrated in economics and finance for whatever reason. I failed to see how anyone would do a better job under the current conditions.

So the exceptions are concentrated inside the college's best department. What does that mean?

I'm not in economics or finance. Doty doesn't have much support in my department either. Everyone tries to put the best face on working with him because we all know what he will do if we don't.
1. His health is not good. He has had serious heart problems for a couple of years, and he has not had a "clean" rehab from heart surgery.
2. He has made enemies with Thames and Co. as of late. This includes telling SFT that he was wrong in his opinion of the CoB to his face. While admirable, that won't bode well for his future ability to get things done.
3. Most of Farhang's political capital is held with Cynthia Easterling-Moore, and that ain't worth what it used to be.
4. Farhang has played politics in the CoB for too long. He wouldn't have a smooth ride at building consensus.
