"In the business world, most employees are evaluated annually."
Yes, and the same thing is true in the academic world as well (at least it is where I teach). In fact, if you count student evaluations, it happens even more frequently than yearly. Why should Shelby not be evaluated annually when his faculty (presumably) are?
By the way, does USM have a formal process for evaluating adminsitrators? At my school, we submit evaluations of the chancellor, vice-chancellors, deans, and department heads quite often -- I believe it's every other year for the various offices (e.g., upper administrators one year, deans the next, and I think department heads each year. I can't remember the exact figures because I am generally happy with all our administrators and thus don't take a very close interest in the process). If USM has such a process, I wonder how Shelby has scored on his annual evaluations. By whom are these reviewed?
Also by the way, the HA has now added its voice to that of the CL in endorsing the proposed IHL changes, which are quite obviously inspired by Shelby's ineptness and which will be perhaps his most lasting legacy to the people of Mississippi. Thanks, Shelby! You done good!
