I'm glad they have the same designer as the Vanguard. The instant feedback section for each article comes in handy; we can now flow over to that paper and post our disgust with everything and reach a larger audience.

It's online, but it has problems. One of the cartoons is not there and when I tried to send an email question to them, it bounced back to me with a "Relay Access Denied" message.

Gator,

Gotta get you a new handle.  I've been using Gatoreagle for many, many years online.

Not to be a snot, but there are many people that know me as GE and while I completely trust your judgement as a fellow USM'er,  I'd hate for our comments to cross paths online.

Thanks for the gentleman's (or gentlewoman's) courtesy

Best-

AR

I'm a little surprised by the Printz's lack of coverage of the major events of the past few weeks.  I realize that the quality of many college newspapers tends to vary from year to year with the turnover of student staff, but this year's Printz seems less full of hard news (and even less full of solid opinion pieces) than last year's.  Is this just my imagination?  Is the staff of the paper this year more inclined to "look the other way" than was true of last year's staff?  USM has been undergoing a major crisis in its history, yet this doesn't seem to be reflected very fully in this year's paper, although perhaps I am mistaken.

"even less" should be "also less"; sorry!

Dude,

We got two unique handles here that are similar: yours is all one word - Gatoreagle; mine is two separate words - Gator Eagle. There is no reason to be confused. Besides I have been posting using Gator Eagle for quite a while now and it doesn't appear to have confused folks. I find it interesting that there are more than the 3 gator/eagles around here that I know of. When did you graduate from UF?

How do you know he didn't graduate from San Francisco State College or Gautier High School?

Who has the final authority in naming the Editor of the Printz? What "clearances" must be made prior to that point?

Please do not read any interpretation into my posting name. I am totally neutral on this particular matter. I was asking for information only. I made a poor choice of posting name.

Finished my Master's at UF in 1999.  Live in South Florida now.

Have the only USM tags in town now-

If you want to keep using the handle, there's nothing stopping you from doing so.  However, prepare to possibly be asked online about very strange and devious past events (I have no idea what they are talking about, FWIW).

Go Eagles, Go Gators!

Hey Gator Eagle - I finished my B.A. there 30 years before you got your Master's, in 1969. Gosh, I feel old.  Still miss UF sometimes. They didn't have to invent traditions there, you know?

Yes, UF was a great place to be a grad student (in 1998-1999), but I enjoyed my undergrad time at USM much better.  I didn't feel as much of a number in H'burg.

Hate to see what's happening back in H'burg.  To me, the solution seems rather simple and I think this whole period has taught many people a lesson (on both sides).

Hopefully there will be a change in admin (and added respect for the quality of teaching at USM) and the faculty (overall) will embrace a need to increase research productivity to move forward as an institution under a new leader.  To me, it's all about balance and reaching a mutual agreement on where the university is going.

As I understand it, there is a committee who selects the Printz editor.  I am aware of at least two members who serve on that committee- CoAL Dean and an SGA representative (usually the President).

The USM Board on Publications selects the editors of the "Student Printz" and the yearbook, and the Printz Business Manager.  There is a mandatory minimum GPA for applicants, a written qualifications statement in the application, and a personal interview with the board.  In my three-year term on the Board, the members were the COLA Dean (presumably now the CoAL Dean), the Faculty Advisor to the Student Printz, the Yearbook advisor (at the time, a Student Union staff member),  a student representative, a faculty representative (named by Faculty Senate), and usually at least one "outside professional" journalist.  Some years, we interviewed multiple candidates.  In other years, the Printz and Yearbook advisors had a difficult time recruiting potential candidates.

Usually too there is a student representative from The Student Printz.
