As this story and other reports from the IHL meeting yesterday suggest, Shelby Thames, due to his monumental ineptness, is actually helping to improve the entire system of higher education for the whole state of Mississippi. If he were a competent president, none of the positive changes now taking place would have been considered necessary.

Shelby Thames: "This Is Your Life!" I hope everyone appreciates the service he is performing.

The guy whose letter appeared this morning, complaining about the lack of positive news about USM in the Hat Am, is going to love this passage:

Southern Miss officials later informed the board about the probation they received from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools for deficiencies in evaluating the school's distance-learning programs. It was later learned Southern Miss officials ignored warnings for two years from SACS about the situation.

Which sums up one part of Thames' legacy perfectly.
