Oh,Andrea - you are a Vandy Dandy. You have guts when guts are needed. And, you've managed to accumulate a lot of trolls who appear to need to hear directly from you. How DO you do it? Brains . . . and the beauty of truth.
Aww shucks, guys! I'm just doing what any of you would do for USM given the same circumstances. As Bobby Mixon (in his PR release) and Lamar Reynolds have noted on other threads, USM is MY university! Sure, I don't have as much $$ or well-connected friends in the 'burg as Mr. Mixon, but my family bleeds black-n-gold as much as his...just because I don't write big checks to support USM athletics doesn't mean I don't care.
I made a vow back in March 2004 that I would do whatever I could to help my many friends still there at USM (my fellow grad students in English, the undergrad students that I helped to recruit for the Honors College, my overworked and underpaid staff colleagues, and the wonderful professors who inspired me to follow in their footsteps). I continue to be so sad when I think about all USM has lost over the past 2 years, but I'm heartened by reading the posts on this board, especially from those who choose to stay and fight for all that is right about USM.
And if I didn't believe that there was something worth fighting for, I wouldn't still be here fighting (no real violence intended or implied--I'm a pacifist). You all are great...and I'll continue to do whatever I can to support you in the times (good or bad) ahead.
Hang in there, keep up the good fight, and always remember....
NO FREAKIN' QUARTER!
Truth (aka Andrea Hewitt, proud 2nd generation alum of USM)
