You are so right Sympathizer.  Even in the closed-door meetings of the Faculty Senate during debates over votes of confidence or votes for recommending a search for a new president, Thames had no supporters.  Some senators voted against no confidence or spoke out against doing so, but never did anyone say they HAD CONFIDENCE.  Their reasons always had to do with "PR", "being negative" and "how will the Board receive this".  No one stated, "I have confidence and support SFT".

"Hi Kudzu King, I can say from my previous administrative experiences at major universities elsewhere that AAUP is as much pro- administration as it is pro -faculty. More specifically, it is pro- due process, pro- academic freedom, and pro- shared goverance. I can confirm for sure that AAUP at the national level does not take kindly to a faculty member abusing tenure, and it stands ready to provide a university administration with advice and guidance when so requested. It is not a radical fringe and I regret that you see it that way. Furthermore, if the USM administration had fully subscribed to the principles contained in what is generally referred to as the AAUP "Red Book," USM's current problems would not have occurred."

Right on the mark, Charlie D. The AAUP is not a political organization. Adherence to sound academic principles is its sole mission.

If this is true, how can you claim to represent the faculty at USM when less than 10% of the faculty choose to be associated with you?"

Kudzu King,

Around this time last year, USM had around 540 real faculty--or so I was told by informed sources.

It's almost certainly a lower number this year, as many vacancies have gone unfilled.

Padding the faculty totals is one of the oldest tricks in the state university administrator's book.  Don't fall for it.

Kudzu King hit it on the head, the IHL is THE problem, and I resent the anti-south Mississippi "hothead" board redneck activists from STARKVILLE MISSISSIPP (MSU MOO U supporters).

I am sick and tired of the MSU faction condescending on Hattiesburg and dictating the future of our university, mission, athletics, and academic accreditation to our own DETRIMENT .

It is no coincidence that the four loudest movers and shakers and anti-USM hotheads are the following four RASCALS:

Scott Ross
Mr. Colbert
Roy Klumb
Carl Nicholson

What do these USM haters who are doing all in their power to keep SFT afloat????

They are to a man, all Mississippi graduate and boosters.

Kudzo, we have long known that. Even though all USM profs are not AAUP members, 99% of the remaining faculty are united behind their opposition to SFT and the now "out in the open" destruction being coordinated by Carl, Roy and his MSU cronies.

You will never see them foist this outrageous annihalation on THEIR schools.

This IS a conspiracy and even Myron Henry now acknowledges that.

This is not liberl vs. conservative, AAUP vs indepedent faculty, though Carl and the boys convinced the "bidness" crowd (many of them from MSU) to frame it this way. Tell the people something long enough and they will believe it.

I say to the Carl Nicholson, IHL kissing, anti-USM Mississippi State (and Ole Miss) goons, go to Hell.

Now tell us how you really feel, Query.   Good post!

As long as Thames' vision includes demolishing Liberal Arts as we've seen over the past few years, then I can't imagine why anyone who supports USM being a comprehensive, research-extensive university can embrace that vision. Please enlighten me, if you know differently.

My own vision is that of winning the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes or a sixty million dollar lottery. That vision is, of course, entirely unrealistic. The professed vision of the current administration appears to be no less myopic than my own.

Query,

It's been a long time coming, but I've decided that you are correct about this. They have no concern at all for USM.

And it is the board's fault (the entire board except Newton) that we have SFT.
