Derrick Nix & Dr. Rouse --- not a good combo
Permalink Closed

I believe Dr. Rouse was in the middle of the cabal that convinced Derrick Nix to take that anti-inflammatory cocktail that destroyed his kidney function and ended his college career and NFL aspirations.  DN is suing the drug companies, but not the others ---- for now, that is.

I believe you are correct. If I recall correctly, the indication was that Rouse, et. al., administered the cocktail to get DN back on the field sooner, a decision that may ultimately prove incredibly costly to Nix, USM, the drug companies, and SB&J (Rouse).

Do NOT patronize Dr. Rouse
Permalink Closed

I have been in Hattiesburg for 50 long years, seen a lot things and times and people and ways of thinking come and go.

And I know a lot of Shelby supporters, pro Ole Miss/Mississippi state hangers on,a and assorted rascals.

But NO ONE has disasppointed me MORE so than, of all people, Dr. Doug Rouse.

And he seems among the more visceral, hard core supporters.

I have a hard time understanding this, since I used to know him as a man of intelligence and surgical skills.

I will see him no more and I will see that my family never darkens that entire office. I had no Idea Doug was this way, and wanted USM set back behind Ole Miss and MSU.

Still in shock...........................and I need doctors at my old age.

I'm concerned about the implications here

Old One, I'm troubled by your post, as you seem to be responding to hearsay, and indeed, willing to accept an unsubstantiated rumor as truth even when it contradicts your own experience.

I know nothing at all about the events referenced in this thread, but I do know that if you've had a long and trusting relationship with someone that you owe it to that person to speak to him personally and give him a chance to respond to your concerns before you publicly but anonymously torpedo his reputation.

Dr. Rouse is a fine surgeon, OldOne.  I heard that Nix had a rare undiagnosed kidney disease when he was give the drugs.  It was this that caused the problem.  In any case, I support the good doctor even though I 'm very disappointed in his support of SFT.  Visitors to this board must realize we can disagree with people on issues, but still highly respect them as people and professionals.  That is the way of academia.

OldOne, I hope you continue to see Dr. Rouse.  It will give you a chance to tell him what you found out visiting the AAUP message board.  I bet you will have a lot to talk about.
